{"id":10242,"date":"2012-04-12T09:03:53","date_gmt":"2012-04-12T17:03:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/?p=10242"},"modified":"2012-04-12T09:03:53","modified_gmt":"2012-04-12T17:03:53","slug":"lambchop-releases-video-for-2b2-off-of-their-magnificent-mr-m-album","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/2012-04\/lambchop-releases-video-for-2b2-off-of-their-magnificent-mr-m-album\/","title":{"rendered":"Lambchop Releases Video for &#8220;2B2&#8221; Off of Their Magnificent &#8220;Mr. M&#8221; Album"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-10243\" title=\"lambchop.JPG.CROP.rectangle3-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/lambchop.JPG.CROP_.rectangle3-large.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"568\" height=\"346\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/lambchop.JPG.CROP_.rectangle3-large.jpg 568w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/lambchop.JPG.CROP_.rectangle3-large-150x91.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/lambchop.JPG.CROP_.rectangle3-large-450x274.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 568px) 100vw, 568px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It took a couple (OK, ten) of spins, but <strong>Lambchop&#8217;s<\/strong> heartrending <strong>Mr. M<\/strong> album has vaulted to the top of our <strong>Best Albums of 2012 So Far<\/strong> list.\u00a0 Bandleader Kurt Wagner has fashioned a subtle but brilliant album that evinces seemingly effortless complexity and poesy.\u00a0 Musically, Wagner has eschewed the wall of sound that he&#8217;s favored at times in Lambchop&#8217;s past and has instead stripped Mr. M&#8217;s songs of excess.\u00a0 And in the process, the heart and soul has been revealed.\u00a0 The net effect smacks at times of\u00a0 Wagner-as-&#8217;50s or &#8217;60s-crooner (for a similar effect check out the great albums of <strong>Richard Hawley<\/strong>).\u00a0 But in the end it&#8217;s just Wagner doing what he does best:\u00a0 writing intelligent, emotionally powerful songs.<\/p>\n<p>Check out the video for <em><strong> 2B2<\/strong><\/em> (with its con-texty lyrics) below, just one of the relentlessly superb songs from off of <strong>Mr. M<\/strong> (our personal faves are <em><strong>Kind Of, Nice Without Mercy<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>Mr. Met<\/strong><\/em>).\u00a0 Wagner has said this about the song&#8217;s lines &#8220;One man cooks with powder \/ The other cooks with stones&#8221;:\u00a0 &#8220;We [Wagner and founding bandmate Jonathan Marx] were talking on the phone and we discovered we were both cooking chickpeas. The lyrics are a basic chronicle of events surrounding a specific evening when I came to an understanding.
