and NPR"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>KEXP<\/strong> just released a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Fw_OUKxZDXA&amp;feature=uploademail\"><strong>variety of video vignettes<\/strong><\/a> of the band <strong>Real Estate<\/strong> performing live at the Neptune Theater in Seattle last month.\u00a0 We checked &#8217;em all out in hopes of posting accolades (their latest record is much-loved by people we respect).\u00a0 But after giving &#8217;em their due, these videos only confirm the conclusion we drew a couple years ago after catching the band locally:\u00a0 while they make pleasant-sounding jangle-pop records, there remains no ostensible reason to spend any time or money to see the band live.\u00a0 They make a pleasant sound, but don&#8217;t better the records, and completely lack any energy, dynamism, tension or stage-presence to bring the songs to life.\u00a0 Check the KEXP videos if you don&#8217;t believe us.\u00a0 Paint.\u00a0 Drying.\u00a0 You&#8217;ve been warned.<\/p>\n<p>In stark contrast (yes, a long precis to the main point) is the surging, <strong>Justin Vernon<\/strong>-tapped Minneapolis band, <strong>Polica<\/strong>. \u00a0 They have a much-lauded new album entitled <strong>Give You The Ghost<\/strong>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/2012-04\/the-talk-show-roundup-war-on-drugs-ben-kweller-polica-and-moby\/\"><strong>we loved their performance<\/strong> <\/a>on the<strong> Jimmy Fallon Show<\/strong> last month.\u00a0 Now check out their riveting performance of <strong><em>Lay Your Cards Out <\/em><\/strong>on <strong>WFUV&#8217;s &#8220;Altnernate Side&#8221;<\/strong> show.\u00a0 Who can take their ears off of lead singer <strong>Channy Leaneagh<\/strong> (of band <strong>Gayngs<\/strong>)?\u00a0 The sound and mood draw you in immediately.\u00a0 Leaneagh demands that cards be layed on the table.\u00a0 And the song propels along beseechingly, intermittently punctuated by the stellar stoccato-drumming of\u00a0 <strong>Ben Ivascu<\/strong>.\u00a0 Great stuff that warrants repeated listens\/viewings.\u00a0 Check it out below.\u00a0 After is an added 30-minute vignette of the band performing at this year&#8217;s <strong>SXSW<\/strong> courtesy of <strong>NPR<\/strong>.\u00a0 We find ourselves in a <strong>Polica state<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Poli\u00e7a - &quot;Lay Your Cards Out&quot;
