{"id":10934,"date":"2012-05-30T06:14:28","date_gmt":"2012-05-30T14:14:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/?p=10934"},"modified":"2012-05-31T16:02:05","modified_gmt":"2012-06-01T00:02:05","slug":"the-great-songs-the-roches-hammond-song","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/2012-05\/the-great-songs-the-roches-hammond-song\/","title":{"rendered":"The Great Songs&#8211;The Roches&#8217; &#8220;Hammond Song&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Roches<\/strong> are three sisters,<strong> Maggie, Terre<\/strong>, and <strong>Suzzy<\/strong>, from New York that have been loved for their heavenly harmonies and quirky songwriting.\u00a0 They have been talented enough to draw the attention of <strong>Paul Simon<\/strong> (he recruited them to sing on <strong>There Goes a Rhymin&#8217; Simon<\/strong>) and <strong>Robert Fripp<\/strong> (he produced and played on several of their albums), amongst others.\u00a0 They have a radiant discography that frippered out in the &#8217;90s (though they put out a well-received album in 2007).<\/p>\n<p>Their finest song is <em><strong>Hammond Song<\/strong><\/em>, off of their eponymous 1979 debut album, which we played to death.\u00a0 The video below captures the sisters in all their harmonious glory, belting the song.\u00a0 Hammond is a Louisiana town that the two older sisters, Maggie and Terre, spent six months in after singing on <strong>Paul Simon&#8217;s There Goes a Rhymin&#8217; Simon<\/strong><em>. <\/em>They went to Hammond together, though one was evidently following a suitor.\u00a0 Despite the concerns expressed in the song, the sisters ended up back in New York.
