We’ve been preoccupied with a music festival and travel, and glossed over the fact that Radiohead’s Austin City Limits<\/strong> show was broadcast last Saturday<\/strong>. While it will always be tough to match their From the Basement<\/strong><\/a> performance for sound and video quality, for those that didn’t catch a show on their recent tour (we were blessed to eek our way into the Santa Barbara Bowl<\/strong> for the show of the year<\/strong><\/a>) watch the entire stellar ACL<\/strong> episode of the best band in the world doing what they do best. \u00a0Especially enjoyable is the rare sound mix in which\u00a0Thom Yorke’s<\/strong> vocals are featured high in the mix. \u00a0The band\u00a0<\/strong>plays old\/new song The Amazing Sounds of Orgy<\/strong><\/em>, the backstory of which is explained in an intro to the song.\u00a0 Thereafter, the sequence of Staircase, Identikit and There There<\/strong><\/em> is particularly stunning.\u00a0 The group vocal on the latter provides THE highlight of the show.\u00a0 The episode ends strongly with older crowd-favorites Idioteque<\/strong><\/em> and seminal Paranoid Android<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 It doesn’t get any better.\u00a0 Hang in for the short interview of Yorke<\/strong> and Ed Greenwood<\/strong> at the end, in which Yorke compares the band’s internal politics to the United Nations while he is “the United States.”<\/p>\n

Recent controversies regarding PBS<\/strong> notwithstanding, it is the network’s presentation of great art such as this that will always be “worth it<\/strong>.”\u00a0 Long live PBS!<\/strong><\/p>\n
