Britain’s Daughter<\/strong><\/a> (4AD<\/strong>) has built a big buzz and are headed through the States as we write, alighting in Seattle tomorrow<\/strong> night, San Francisco on Monday<\/strong> and LA on Tuesday<\/strong> (Halloween Eve) at the Bootleg Theater<\/strong>.\u00a0 The buzz has been further emboldened following their recent appearance on the Letterman Show<\/strong> (see below) and their performance of captivating soul-burner Youth<\/strong><\/em>, one of the better coming-of-age songs we’ve heard in quite some time.\u00a0 They have to date only released two EPs in The Wild Youth<\/strong> and His Young Heart<\/strong> and, most recently, the single Smother<\/strong><\/em><\/a> (listen below), but have already outgrown those strictures.\u00a0 Having only listened to their songs for a week or so, we are completely hooked on the harrow.<\/p>\n

The band is fronted by Elena Tonra<\/strong> and bears some sonic resemblance to the likes of Florence<\/strong> and a Brit-lilted Sharon Van Etten<\/strong>, but with more restraint than the former and much added to the melange by the spectral, layered guitar-play of Igor Haefel<\/strong> and drummer Remi Aguilella\u2019s<\/strong> perfect percussive effects.\u00a0 Their songs are tastefully opulent and often dulcet musically, but the lyrics tell tales of a tested heart and are delivered with a tenebrous timbre.\u00a0 The combination takes us over.<\/p>\n
