{"id":13436,"date":"2012-11-07T10:10:29","date_gmt":"2012-11-07T18:10:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/?p=13436"},"modified":"2012-11-07T14:17:49","modified_gmt":"2012-11-07T22:17:49","slug":"watch-new-correatown-video-for-play-and-buy-pleiades-album","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/2012-11\/watch-new-correatown-video-for-play-and-buy-pleiades-album\/","title":{"rendered":"Watch New Correatown Video for &#8220;Play&#8221; and Buy &#8220;Pleiades&#8221; Album"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/pleiades_jewels_F1-450x409.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-13437\" title=\"pleiades_jewels_F1-450x409\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/pleiades_jewels_F1-450x409.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"409\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/pleiades_jewels_F1-450x409.jpeg 450w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/pleiades_jewels_F1-450x409-150x136.jpeg 150w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/pleiades_jewels_F1-450x409-440x400.jpeg 440w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Where to start with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.okcorreatown.com\/\"><strong>Correatown<\/strong><\/a>, <strong>Angela Correa&#8217;s<\/strong> project?\u00a0 We were first introduced to the talented Correa when she and constant musical companion\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tombrosseau.com\/\"><strong>Tom Brosseau<\/strong><\/a> (together they were\/are <strong>The Shelleys<\/strong>) came to Santa Barbara to play in-store at <strong>John Healy&#8217;s<\/strong> much-missed <strong>Buffalo Records<\/strong>.\u00a0 And we&#8217;ve been in love with both artists&#8217; music ever since (more about<strong> Brosseau<\/strong> later).\u00a0 Initially <strong>Correa\/Brosseau<\/strong> sang\u00a0 folk\/country\/standards.\u00a0 And Angela put out a couple of great <strong>Correatown<\/strong> discs that continued in the indie-folk-ballad genre.\u00a0 So we were floored when Angela passed along a new disc of <strong>Correatown<\/strong> demos a while back, but didn&#8217;t tell us of the seismic shift in her\/their sound.\u00a0 Suddenly Correatown had gone <strong>&#8217;80s synth-pop<\/strong>!\u00a0 And what a perfect sound it was\/is to show off Correa&#8217;s phenomenal songwriting and vocals.\u00a0 Correa explains: &#8220;When I began writing songs for our latest recordings I kept imagining the sounds and instruments that would shape the direction of our new songs. The most appealing were really freaked out thick and pulsing bass sounds or odd twitchy static noises tucked into shimmering and ethereal melodies. The more the band explored different arrangements and instruments, the more I felt the possibility of having a less organic sound that felt more evocative of the music we wanted to create was our compass.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re not alone in our appreciation for <strong>Correa<\/strong> and<strong> Correatown<\/strong>.\u00a0 Angela&#8217;s voice was featured in the film <strong>Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story<\/strong> on the song <em><strong>Let\u2019s Duet<\/strong>, <\/em>she has sung backup with<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/2011-04\/moby-kills-the-day-on-the-tonight-show-with-angela-correa-on-backup\/\"><strong> Moby<\/strong><\/a> and others, and last year <em><strong>Further<\/strong><\/em> was included on the <strong>Grey\u2019s Anatomy Soundtrack Vol 4<\/strong>.\u00a0 Her songs have also appeared on <strong>Ugly Betty, Brothers and Sisters<\/strong> and <strong>How I Met Your Mother<\/strong>.\u00a0 Correatown is fresh off the heels of a successful UK \/ European tour where Angela did a session with Lauren Laverne on <strong>BBC 6 Music<\/strong> and received raves at <strong>CMJ<\/strong>, making <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spin.com\/articles\/download-spins-cmj-2012-mixtape-the-46-next-big-things\"><strong>Spin&#8217;s &#8220;Next Big Thing&#8221;
