{"id":13557,"date":"2012-11-13T06:50:23","date_gmt":"2012-11-13T14:50:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/?p=13557"},"modified":"2012-11-13T06:55:17","modified_gmt":"2012-11-13T14:55:17","slug":"watch-sufjan-stevens-new-nsfk-kids-video-for-ill-be-home-for-christmas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/2012-11\/watch-sufjan-stevens-new-nsfk-kids-video-for-ill-be-home-for-christmas\/","title":{"rendered":"Watch Sufjan Stevens&#8217; New (NSFK-Kids) Video for &#8220;I&#8217;ll Be Home For Christmas&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You can&#8217;t say <strong>Sufjan Stevens<\/strong> has been playing things safe.\u00a0 He&#8217;s recently released <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/2012-10\/watch-sufjan-stevens-official-video-for-mr-frosty-snowman\/\">an unsettling clay-mation video featuring bloody scenes<\/a> and has otherwise been going out on limbs.\u00a0 And now, in his new video for <strong>I&#8217;ll Be Home For Christmas<\/strong> (from his impending <strong>Silver &amp; Gold<\/strong> Christmas-songs box set) we see a less-than-Christmasy, <strong>David Lynch-esque<\/strong> montage of a child running past Santa sawing reindeer antlers, a creepy seance-esque scene, ballerinas menacingly popping balloons, and police hovering over what appears to be Stevens&#8217; body (though credited as &#8220;Jordan Lake,&#8221; and finally ending with a child receiving a gift from what may or may not be her parents.\u00a0 The only thing missing is <strong>Dennis Hopper<\/strong> and a gas mask.\u00a0 Also reminds of <strong>Bergman&#8217;s <em>Fanny and Alexander<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 Yikes.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t let your kids see this one.\u00a0 The good news?\u00a0 If you don&#8217;t watch, it&#8217;s a dreamy rendering of the song.<\/p>\n<p>As Stevens&#8217; label (we assume Stevens himself) has written about Christmas and the genesis for the new box set:\u00a0 &#8220;This is the true horror-show catharsis of Christmas: the existential emptiness that perseveres in the heart of modern man as he recklessly pursues his search for happiness and comes up empty handed.&#8221;\u00a0 But as also written, we trust that Stevens will do as they later say:\u00a0 &#8220;His song is love; his song is hope; his song is peace.
