There are a few simple reasons Alt-J<\/strong> won this year’s Mercury Prize<\/strong> for best United Kingdom album of the year An Awesome Wave<\/strong>.\u00a0 They are ridiculously gifted songwriters, musicians and singers, all of which were combined well in that spectacular, nuance-filled album.\u00a0 Sometimes those gifts don’t translate to the stage, but as you will see below, such is not the case with these gents from Cambridge.\u00a0 They came through the States in December and Oregon Public Broadcasting<\/strong> captured them performing at the Star Theater<\/strong> in Portland.\u00a0 Check out two particularly compelling performances (of Fitzpleasure<\/strong><\/em> and Something Good<\/strong><\/em>).\u00a0 The harmonies and piano on Fitzpleasure<\/strong><\/em> are alone worth the price of admission.\u00a0 Alt-J<\/strong> is here to stay.\u00a0 You can read more and watch another song over at OPB<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n
