Former Pulp<\/strong> guitarist Richard Hawley<\/strong> has been floating solo for over a decade following Pulp’s<\/strong> pulverization (as recording artists anyway).\u00a0 Hawley, the son of a steel worker, was raised in Sheffield, England, and grew up listening to the likes of Elvis (Presley), (Roy) Orbison, Scott Walker<\/strong> and Lee Hazelwood<\/strong>.\u00a0 He learned guitar at an early age and became a gunslinger in Pulp, Longpigs<\/strong>, and various studio sessions before breaking out his first solo album in 2001.\u00a0 Hawley’s sophomore album, Late Night Final<\/strong>, set the mode for his next 4-5 albums with Hawley’s baritone combining with lush life string arrangements.\u00a0 In 2005 he released one of our favorite albums of all-time, Coles Corner <\/strong>(a hangout in Sheffield), with its cinematic romanticisms delivered in his crooner’s lilt.\u00a0 This was followed by the similarly fantastic and atmospheric\u00a0Lady’s Bridge<\/strong> and Truelove’s Gutter<\/strong>. \u00a0But last year Hawley moved into more of a late-’60s psychedelia motif with his more aggressive, critically-acclaimed, Mercury Prize-nominated<\/strong> album, Standing at the Sky’s Edge<\/strong>.\u00a0 Buried within the album, however, was the song Don’t Stare At The Sun<\/strong><\/em> which could have compatibly fit within his prior three albums.\u00a0 Hawley has just released his official video for the beautifully moving song, which you can check out below.\u00a0 We’ll have more about the prodigiously-talented Hawley another time.\u00a0 In the meantime, don’t stare at the sun.\u00a0 And what the heck, after Hawley’s video check out the nostalgia of (Hawley-influencing) Lee Hazelwood’s<\/strong> song, For One<\/strong><\/em> Moment<\/strong>. \u00a0Cloudy brain indeed.\u00a0 It’s Monday.<\/p>\n
