Let’s not beat around the bush shall we?\u00a0 Mr. Iron & Wine, Sam Beam<\/strong>, the leader\/singer\/songwriter of the band is one of the best songwriters extant.\u00a0 In particular he is our finest lyricist.\u00a0 There.\u00a0 Said.<\/p>\n

We have loved Iron & Wine since their initial appearance on Sub Pop<\/strong> (at the time a head-scratcher given the label’s rocking ways) in 2002 with the spare, plucky, much-loved Creek Drank the Cradle.<\/strong>\u00a0 Since then the “band” has released four more well-crafted studio albums and one of the best-ever rarities\/B-sides\/discards compilation (Around the Well<\/strong>).\u00a0 2011\u2019s Kiss Each Other Clean <\/strong>was a departure from the early acoustic, virtually-solo albums, with its big-band sounds and arrangements and added rock\/R&B elements.\u00a0 Today Iron & Wine began streaming Lovers’ Revolution<\/strong><\/em>, the first track released from new album Ghost on Ghost<\/strong>, which will be released on IRS Day\u00a0<\/strong>(4\/15).\u00a0 Check out the jazzy song below, which wouldn’t have sounded out of place on an early Tom Waits<\/strong> album.\u00a0 In other words:\u00a0 we love it.<\/p>\n

The new album was recorded in New York and produced by Beam\u2019s longtime collaborator Brian Deck<\/strong> (Modest Mouse, Califone, Fruit Bats<\/strong>).\u00a0 Assisting were stellar musicians Rob Burger<\/strong> of Tin Hat Trio<\/strong>, Steve Bernstein, Tony Scherr, Kenny Wollesen<\/strong>, and Briggan Krauss<\/strong> of Sex Mob<\/strong>, jazz drummer Brian Blade<\/strong>, trombonist Curtis Fowlkes<\/strong> of the Jazz Passengers<\/strong>, bassist Tony Garnier<\/strong> (Bob Dylan’s band), cellist Marika Hughes, Maxim Moston<\/strong> and Doug Wieselman<\/strong> of Antony and the Johnsons<\/strong>, and Anja Wood<\/strong>. Burger (Tin Hat Trio) also handled the string and horn arrangements.\u00a0 For the album\u2019s cover, Beam, who is also a visual artist, chose an image from the series Private Lives <\/strong>by noted photographer Barbara Crane<\/strong>.\u00a0 The tracklist is below the song.<\/p>\n
