Eleanor Friedberger<\/strong><\/a> put out one of our Best Albums of 2011<\/strong><\/a> with her sunny-sounding pop-inflected solo album Last Summer, <\/strong>and she is now a perennial favorite at Chez Lefort<\/strong>.\u00a0 Make no mistake about it:\u00a0 Friedberger has a way with upbeat, summery pop-rock<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0 Now comes the good news that Friedberger will release her second solo album, Personal Record<\/strong>, on June 4th on Merge Records<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Before releasing Last Summer<\/strong>, Friedberger<\/strong> spent the prior decade in the critically-acclaimed (but at times maddening) indie-rock “band” The Fiery Furnaces<\/strong> (currently on hiatus) with her brother Matthew<\/strong>.\u00a0 Let’s see here…hmmm.\u00a0 Eleanor has now released two comparatively straightforward, but masterful pop-rock albums and Matthew has released…oh.\u00a0 In 2011 Matthew Friedberger released eight (8!) albums each focusing on one particular instrument.\u00a0 And then in 2012 he released Matricidal Sons of Bitches<\/strong>, which included 45 tracks for a “soundtrack for an imaginary horror film.”\u00a0 We may have figured out the maddening portion of The Fiery Furnaces equation.\u00a0 As we were saying:\u00a0 we love Eleanor Friedberger’s music!<\/p>\n
