Let&#8217;s start at the very top of the mountain of music.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ironandwine.com\/home-m?frontpage=true\"><strong>Iron &amp; Wine <\/strong><\/a>performed new songs<em><strong> Low Light Buddy of Mine<\/strong><\/em> and then (in a web-exclusive) <em><strong>Caught in the Briars\/Sundown<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>medley, all off their brilliant new album <strong>Ghost on Ghost<\/strong> on <strong>Conan<\/strong>.\u00a0 Check out <strong>Sam Beam&#8217;s<\/strong> big band (Sam + 12) first playing spare and spirited on <em><strong>Low Light Buddy of Mine<\/strong><\/em>, resolved with horns and background vocals meshing perfectly on the refrain.\u00a0 On <em><strong>Caught in the Briars\/Sundown<\/strong><\/em> all three trios (strings, horns and vocals) were put to superb effect.\u00a0 Soul and all that jazz combined.\u00a0 Oh how far Beam has come from the nylon-stringed whisper-and-hush of <strong>The Creek Drank the Cradle<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>We can&#8217;t say enough about <strong>Sam Beam&#8217;s<\/strong> scintillating songwriting and the band&#8217;s live show (see our review of their January 2011 <strong>Wiltern<\/strong> show <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/2011-01\/iron-wine-at-the-wiltern-12611\/\"><strong>HERE<\/strong><\/a>).\u00a0 In this era of slimmed-down band offerings (<em>see<\/em>: over the duos) and expense limitations it is heartwarming to see Beam casting cost issues aside and laying out full-stop.\u00a0 Do what you have to do to catch them live on their tour (dates can be found<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ironandwine.com\/tour\"><strong> HERE<\/strong><\/a>).\u00a0 They open up their tour at the <strong>Bottle Rocket Festival<\/strong> in Napa this Saturday and, as of now, not scheduled to return to Cali.\u00a0 A crying shame.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll have a full review of <strong>Ghost on Ghost<\/strong> soon.\u00a0 In the meantime, do yourselves a favor or two and watch these clips from <strong>Conan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/teamcoco.com\/embed\/v\/51801\" height=\"465\" width=\"640\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/teamcoco.com\/embed\/v\/51861\" height=\"465\" width=\"640\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It was a great night last night for music on late-night television.
