{"id":1660,"date":"2010-07-24T18:48:54","date_gmt":"2010-07-24T18:48:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/?p=1660"},"modified":"2010-07-25T22:45:58","modified_gmt":"2010-07-25T22:45:58","slug":"sad-news-from-germany-gott-sei-mit-euch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/2010-07\/sad-news-from-germany-gott-sei-mit-euch\/","title":{"rendered":"I Woke Up to the Sound&#8211;Gott Sei Mit Euch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-1664\" title=\"autechre\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/autechre-700x466.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"635\" height=\"422\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/autechre-700x466.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/autechre-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/autechre-450x300.jpg 450w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/autechre.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 635px) 100vw, 635px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We heard the news last night, and it weighed us down.\u00a0 Our hearts go out to those who lost their lives at the Love Parade techno music festival in Duisburg, Germany yesterday, along with their families and friends.<\/p>\n<p>Words fail.\u00a0 But music doesn&#8217;t.\u00a0 Almost immediately we thought of the great Clem Snide, and Eef Barzelay&#8217;s stunningly and eerily relevant song.\u00a0 Different contexts and messages, perhaps, but the devastation is nonetheless\u00a0 similar.\u00a0 Once again Eef has provided the perfect soundtrack to our lives.<\/p>\n<p>Clem Snide&#8211;<em>The Sound of German Hip Hop<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em><strong>I woke up to the sound of German hip hop in my head<br \/>\nA great unholy clatter quickly filling me with dread<br \/>\nI wondered then if silence had forever disappeared<br \/>\nWhat, with everybody yelling the end was finally here<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>I scrambled for the television, desperate for its light<br \/>\nHoping that my favorite stars could stop this endless night<br \/>\nI waited for instructions, I waited for a sign<br \/>\nI listened very carefully when told just what to buy<\/p>\n<p>Lovers became bitter, mathematicians counting crumbs<br \/>\nSome were filled with angry lust, the rest felt mostly numb<br \/>\nThe sun became the enemy, they&#8217;d hunger after dark<br \/>\nAnd kill time swapping partners at a club called Noah&#8217;s Arc<\/p>\n<p>Those who spoke of doom impending, suffering and such<br \/>\nHad found the place in people&#8217;s heart that beauty had once touched<br \/>\nThey filled the auditorium, the tickets far from cheap<br \/>\nThose that couldn&#8217;t get in started fighting in the street<\/p>\n<p>The day came so we gathered in a field behind the mall<br \/>\nA noted scientist predicted there we&#8217;d see it all<br \/>\nThe city council members came, they told us not to fear<br \/>\nThe king and queen of homecoming both shed a poignant tear<\/p>\n<p>Just like that it happened, the starling blinked its eye<br \/>\nThe molecules collided and became part of the sky<br \/>\nAll my life I&#8217;ve never known a moment quite so still<br \/>\nLike space that&#8217;s being emptied at the same time that it&#8217;s filled<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>I woke up to the sound of German hip hop in the air<br \/>\nIt sounded like a hum of insects nesting in my hair<br \/>\nI wasn&#8217;t so much tired but I felt that I should sleep<br \/>\nSo I closed my eyed and mumbled something about a soul to keep<\/strong><\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Clem Snide&#8211;<em>The Sound of German Hip Hop<\/em><\/p>\n[audio:https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/04-The-Sound-Of-German-Hip-Hop.mp3|titles=04 The Sound Of German Hip-Hop]\n<p>And then of course we thought of Flying Lotus&#8217;s mournful dirge, <em>German Haircut, <\/em>which seems so fitting this morning.\u00a0 Peace to you.<\/p>\n<p>Flying Lotus&#8211;<em>German Haircut<\/em><\/p>\n[audio:https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/12-German-Haircut.mp3|titles=12 German Haircut]\n<p><!--ringtones and media links --><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We heard the news last night, and it weighed us down.\u00a0 Our hearts go out to those who lost their lives at the Love Parade techno music festival in Duisburg, Germany yesterday, along with their families and friends.
