Long-time favorite Joseph Arthur<\/strong><\/a> has a fantastic new album out entitled The Ballad Of Boogie Christ<\/strong>.\u00a0 Check out Arthur<\/strong> and bandmate Bill Dobrow<\/strong> immediately below performing Currency of<\/strong> Love<\/strong><\/em>, the opening track from the album.\u00a0 The new album was written over a half-decade and is based on a single narrative thread:\u00a0 The Ballad of Boogie Christ<\/strong>, described by Arthur<\/strong> as \u201ca fictionalized character loosely based on my own journey.\u201d\u00a0 After the first video, check out several others from the new album.\u00a0 We love what we’re hearing:\u00a0 the usual brilliant songwriting and heart-rending lyrics from one of our best singer-songwriters.\u00a0 For any faithers<\/strong> (and all others) out there wanting to hear honestly-rendered songs conveying both the struggle and ebullience to be found in one’s belief and in this world, this one’s for you. “The album begins with the surprising orchestral pop of \u201cCurrency of Love\u201d, on which Arthur unveils a passionate croon unlike any vocal performance he\u2019s ever given. From there, Boogie Christ offers epic affirmations on overcoming addiction (the seven-minute closer \u201cAll the Old Heroes\u201d), anthems of open-hearted solidarity (\u201cWait for Your Lights\u201d, \u201cIt\u2019s OK To Be Young\/Gone\u201d) and the kinds of slow-burning narratives (\u201cFamous Friends Along the Coast\u201d, \u201cI Used To Know How to Walk on Water\u201d and a reimagined, hymn-like version of his standout, \u201cI Miss the Zoo\u201d) that have won Arthur a legion of fans around the globe.<\/p>\n

Songs like \u201cBlack Flowers\u201d, \u201cI Used To Know How to Walk on Water\u201d and the title cut were recorded several years ago with help from the Band\u2019s<\/strong> legendary keyboardist Garth Hudson<\/strong> and bassist Catherine Popper (Ryan Adams, Jack White), while newer additions to the track list such as \u201cCurrency of Love\u201d and \u201cSaint of Impossible Causes\u201d were crafted in Los Angeles with assistance from Chris Seefried (Fitz & the Tantrums, Lana Del Rey). Among the other guests on Boogie Christ are Ben Harper<\/strong> (Arthur\u2019s bandmate in Fistful of Mercy), session drummer extraordinaire Jim Keltner<\/strong>, Joan As Policewoman<\/strong> leader Joan Wasser<\/strong> and composer Paul Cantelon (Oliver Stone\u2019s W., Julian Schnabel\u2019s The Diving Bell & the Butterfly).”<\/p>\n
