{"id":17117,"date":"2013-06-14T10:22:16","date_gmt":"2013-06-14T18:22:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/?p=17117"},"modified":"2013-06-14T10:22:16","modified_gmt":"2013-06-14T18:22:16","slug":"jeune-leforts-electronic-ish-friday-no-2-mount-kimbie-yes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/2013-06\/jeune-leforts-electronic-ish-friday-no-2-mount-kimbie-yes\/","title":{"rendered":"Jeune Lefort&#8217;s Electronic-ish Friday No. 2:  Mount Kimbie (Yes!)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We bring you the second installment of <strong>Jeune Lefort&#8217;s<\/strong> weekly <strong>Electronic-ish Friday:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Today&#8217;s artist is: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mountkimbie.com\/\">\u00a0<\/a><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mountkimbie.com\/\">Mount Kimbie<\/a>.\u00a0 <\/strong>(No that&#8217;s really their name, Lefort. &#8211;<strong>Jeune Lefort<\/strong>) [<strong>Lefort<\/strong>:\u00a0 Dang, thought that was a new yoga-position\/dance-craze amongst female cognoscenti.]<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/mount-kimbie-cold-spring-fault-less-youth.jpg-album-cover.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-17122\" alt=\"mount-kimbie-cold-spring-fault-less-youth.jpg-album-cover\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/mount-kimbie-cold-spring-fault-less-youth.jpg-album-cover-599x600.jpg\" width=\"599\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/mount-kimbie-cold-spring-fault-less-youth.jpg-album-cover-599x600.jpg 599w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/mount-kimbie-cold-spring-fault-less-youth.jpg-album-cover-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/mount-kimbie-cold-spring-fault-less-youth.jpg-album-cover-399x400.jpg 399w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/mount-kimbie-cold-spring-fault-less-youth.jpg-album-cover.jpg 959w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 599px) 100vw, 599px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Mount Kimbie&#8217;s<\/strong> new sophomore album <strong>Cold Spring Fault Less Youth<\/strong>\u00a0 [<strong>Lefort<\/strong>: Very <strong>Montecito-y<\/strong>) was released on May 27th and is already receiving rave reviews across the board and many <strong>&#8220;Album of the Month&#8221;<\/strong> accolades.\u00a0 <strong>Mount Kimbie<\/strong> is an electronic duo made up of <strong>Dominic Maker<\/strong> and <strong>Kai Campos<\/strong> coming out of Brighton and Cornwall, respectively.\u00a0 Their first album <strong>Crooks and Lovers<\/strong> exploded in 2010 and earned them tons of <strong>&#8220;Best of 2010&#8221;<\/strong> listings.<\/p>\n<p>The stand-out track off the new album is <em><strong>Home Recording<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 <em><strong>Home Recording<\/strong><\/em> might be the most <strong>Lefort Report-compatible<\/strong> track off the album. A beautiful and slow lead gradually builds with drums and sounds to create a soothing and peaceful sound before the lyrics start and continue to mesmerize.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lbIt7zoq0BE\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Both of <strong>Mount Kimbie&#8217;s<\/strong> albums feature many field recordings, but on <strong>Cold Spring Fault Less Youth<\/strong> these sounds have been tweaked and stretched to create a much more &#8220;live&#8221; sound.\u00a0 The first single off the album is <em><strong>Made To Stray<\/strong><\/em> which features multiple field recordings to aid in the build of the slightly-jarring, militaristic beat.\u00a0 The track is then layered with synths and eventually vocals to create the fantastic whole.\u00a0 &#8220;Made to stray around rough coasts, when grace is close to home;&#8221; and close to Lefort&#8217;s home they will be when they play the <strong>Echoplex <\/strong>in<strong> LA<\/strong> this coming Tuesday.\u00a0 For <strong>Bay Area<\/strong> mounters, they play <strong>The Independent<\/strong> on Monday, June 17th.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fapi.soundcloud.com%2Ftracks%2F84409412&amp;color=ff6600&amp;auto_play=false&amp;show_artwork=true\" height=\"166\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"no\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Next, even more obviously electronic than the previous track and a solid entry in the <strong>&#8220;post-dubstep&#8221;<\/strong> genre that <strong>Mount Kimbie<\/strong> seems to take inspiration from is <em><strong>Sullen Ground<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 The track employs a heavier bass line and more field recordings to create this eerie song.\u00a0 The lyrics say that they&#8217;ve &#8220;Been working real hard on this read through,&#8221; and the results of that hard work are impressive.
