It’s been a long, long time, but we still recall being wowed a time or two in the mid-70s by Jerry Jeff Walker<\/strong> at the Santa Barbara County Bowl<\/strong> (before the “County” was excised).\u00a0 Walker<\/strong> wrote many song chestnuts, including Mr. Bojangles,<\/strong><\/em> <\/strong>but where his shows came alive was towards the end when he would break out cunning covers of songs, but in particular super songwriter Guy Clark’s LA Freeway<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 If there was anything Central Coast<\/strong> folks desired, it was to stay off of LA’s freeways,<\/strong> and Jerry Jeff<\/strong> always delivered it with his trademark gruff-verve.\u00a0 We’re new-found fans of Rose Cousins<\/strong> <\/a>(and now Jordie Lane<\/strong>), so watch below as they gamely cover LA Freeway<\/strong><\/em> <\/strong>at a country-lane pace.\u00a0 Afterwards, check out Walker<\/strong> performing the song on the Dinah Shore Show<\/strong>, of all places.\u00a0 The song’s lyrics are at bottom.<\/p>\n
