Last night on The Voice<\/strong> (that’s right, don’t knock it unless you’ve tried it–and yes, we will watch just about anything that includes live music) native Jamaican<\/strong> contestant Tessanne Chin<\/strong> sang an emotionally-charged version of Jimmy Cliff’s<\/strong> foundational song Many Rivers to Cross<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0Chin<\/strong> absolutely slaughtered it as you will see below.<\/p>\n

Many have covered this great song (U2, Harry Nilsson, Bruce Springsteen<\/strong> and Joe Cocker<\/strong> to name a few).\u00a0 But after Chin’s fine cover, it makes most sense to watch Jimmy Cliff<\/strong> himself sing it.\u00a0 Watch below as Cliff<\/strong> sang it in 2009 on Later with Jools Holland<\/strong> (with Jools<\/strong> himself on piano and Dave Swift<\/strong> on bass).\u00a0 And afterwards, listen to the studio version that was included on The Harder They Come<\/strong> soundtrack (originally released on Cliff’s<\/strong> eponymous debut in 1969).\u00a0 Seems like only yesterday that we were watching that entertaining movie (starring none other than Jimmy Cliff<\/strong>) at the Adams Theater<\/strong> in San Diego<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Regardless, it’s a song for the ages.<\/p>\n
