We admit we didn’t fully appreciate Big Star’s Third\/Sister Lovers<\/em><\/strong> 1978 album until much, much later.\u00a0 It wasn’t until 1985<\/strong> when we couldn’t take the huzzahs any more and bought PVC’s<\/strong> reissue of the vinyl album.\u00a0 And then we wore out the grooves.\u00a0 To this day, the album serves up some of the best, most harrowing pop\/rock ever recorded.<\/p>\n

Over the weekend we read Brainpickings’ review of Jennifer Hecht’s superb counter-suicide book Stay<\/em><\/strong><\/a>).\u00a0 As we listened (yet again) to Sister Lovers<\/strong><\/em> (with the Stay<\/strong> <\/em>review still picking our brains), we were taken anew by one of our favorite songs, Take Care<\/strong><\/em>, off of Sister Lovers<\/strong><\/em> <\/strong>(Nighttime<\/strong><\/em> is another).\u00a0 There have been many superb anti-suicide songs throughout time, but Take Care<\/strong><\/em> is what we heard this time.\u00a0 Listen below to the sweet encouragement we hear in Alex Chilton’s <\/strong>song.<\/p>\n
