\"Shires\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Last week we wrote about Jason Isbell<\/strong> and Amanda Shires<\/strong><\/a> covering Warren Zevon’s<\/strong> momentous Mutineer<\/strong><\/em><\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0 But we’ve been newly arrested by the duo’s performance (with Shires<\/strong> leading the way) of her song Wasted and Rolling<\/strong> <\/em>off of Shires’<\/strong> 2013 album Down Fell the Doves.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/em>Isbell <\/strong>we knew about.\u00a0<\/strong> He came out of Drive-By Truckers<\/strong> to go solo and, having addressed his devils (alcohol), came out with Southeastern in 2013 and appeared at the top of many Best Albums of 2013 lists.\u00a0 But until recently, we only knew Shires<\/strong> tangentially (as a valued fiddle player on the Americana scene, having begun in Bob Wills’ The Texas Playboys<\/strong> as a teenager and gone on to accompany many others).\u00a0\u00a0 Shires<\/strong> went threw some tumult in recent times, with an onstage accident (and broken finger) to go with a painful breakup.\u00a0 The upshot is that Shires<\/strong> met Isbell<\/strong>, and they were soon married, and he collaborated with Shires<\/strong> on Down Fell The Doves<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0 To hear what we’ve been missing, check out Shires<\/strong> (with Isbell <\/strong>and Stephanie Dickinson<\/strong>) perform the harrowing beauty, Wasted and Rolling off the album.\u00a0 Oh the harmonies with Dickinson <\/strong>(on bass) and Isbell<\/strong>!\u00a0 And do watch Isbell<\/strong> on solo acoustic starting at 2:11<\/strong>.\u00a0 Shires’<\/strong> smile gives it all away.\u00a0 This is one talented married couple.\u00a0 We can’t wait to hear more.<\/p>\n
