{"id":20903,"date":"2014-04-02T16:56:17","date_gmt":"2014-04-03T00:56:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/?p=20903"},"modified":"2014-04-03T09:18:59","modified_gmt":"2014-04-03T17:18:59","slug":"song-of-the-week-clap-your-hands-say-yeahs-coming-down-with-the-nationals-matt-berninger","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/2014-04\/song-of-the-week-clap-your-hands-say-yeahs-coming-down-with-the-nationals-matt-berninger\/","title":{"rendered":"Song Of The Week: Clap Your Hands Say Yeah&#8217;s \u201cComing Down\u201d (with The National\u2019s Matt Berninger)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Clap-Your-Hands-Say-Yeah-Only-Run.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-20907\" alt=\"Clap-Your-Hands-Say-Yeah-Only-Run\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Clap-Your-Hands-Say-Yeah-Only-Run.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Clap-Your-Hands-Say-Yeah-Only-Run.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Clap-Your-Hands-Say-Yeah-Only-Run-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Clap-Your-Hands-Say-Yeah-Only-Run-400x400.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The week is barely half over, but the <strong>Song of the Week<\/strong> competition is officially over.\u00a0\u00a0 The winner was dropped yesterday by one of our long-time favorite bands, the redacted <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/cyhsy.com\/\">Clap Your Hands Say Yeah<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0 <strong>CYHSY<\/strong> (essentially, now only <strong>Alec Ounsworth<\/strong>) has delivered the outstanding <em><strong>Coming Down,<\/strong><\/em> the lead song off of &#8220;their&#8221; impending new album<em><strong> Only Run<\/strong><\/em> (out in June).\u00a0 The song is a <em>tour de (rock et) force<\/em> beginning with its <em>de rigueur<\/em> fuzz-guitar and evolving quickly into a huge <strong>U2\/Radiohead<\/strong>-esque anthem.\u00a0 You&#8217;ll hear shades of both <strong>Bono<\/strong> and <strong>Yorke<\/strong> (as worked well through the<strong> CYHSY<\/strong> filter) in <strong>Ounsworth&#8217;s<\/strong> vocals, but will later hear the best (only?) counterpoint baritone singer in the business, <strong>The National&#8217;s Matt Berninger<\/strong>.\u00a0 The two combine fantastically in this epic jam.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CYHSY<\/strong> were one of the original internet-indie blog bands and blew up huge like a comet in 2005.\u00a0 They subsequently put out some great recordings, but in this what-have-you-done-for-me-lately era <strong>CYHSY <\/strong>were overlooked in the maelstrom.
