{"id":21057,"date":"2014-04-21T09:03:40","date_gmt":"2014-04-21T17:03:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/?p=21057"},"modified":"2014-04-21T10:04:18","modified_gmt":"2014-04-21T18:04:18","slug":"stream-wye-oaks-imminent-album-shriek-and-song-of-the-week-logic-of-color","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/2014-04\/stream-wye-oaks-imminent-album-shriek-and-song-of-the-week-logic-of-color\/","title":{"rendered":"Stream Wye Oak&#8217;s Imminent Album &#8220;Shriek&#8221; and Song Of The Week &#8220;Logic Of Color&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/wye-oak-shriek1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-21059\" alt=\"wye-oak-shriek1\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/wye-oak-shriek1-594x600.jpg\" width=\"594\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/wye-oak-shriek1-594x600.jpg 594w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/wye-oak-shriek1-148x150.jpg 148w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/wye-oak-shriek1-396x400.jpg 396w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/wye-oak-shriek1.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 594px) 100vw, 594px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>What a long, strange trip it&#8217;s been at Chez Lefort these last few weeks.\u00a0 It&#8217;s enough to make ya wanna <em><strong>Shriek<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 Speaking of which, Baltimore&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/wyeoakmusic.com\/site\/\"><strong>Wye Oak<\/strong><\/a> is set to release their new album, <strong><em>Shriek<\/em><\/strong>, on April 29th on <strong>Merge<\/strong>.\u00a0 The band had a major breakthrough in 2011 with their<strong> <em>Civilian <\/em><\/strong>album, which featured and capitalized on the rousing guitar-play of leader <strong>Jenn Wasner<\/strong>.<strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>We were initially shocked that<strong> <em>Shriek<\/em><\/strong> eschews <strong>Wasner&#8217;s<\/strong> guitar-work to focus on synths and bass, but repeated listens reveal that the broader palette has paid off soundly for the band.\u00a0 Along the way <strong>Wasner<\/strong> takes on the vocal mien of many of the great female vocalists to great effect (check out the closing trilogy of the <strong>Kate Bush<\/strong>-like <em><strong>Paradise<\/strong><\/em>, followed by the decidedly<strong> Joni Mitchell-y<\/strong> <em><strong>I Know The Law, <\/strong><\/em><strong><\/strong>capped off by the pop brilliance of <em><strong>Logic of Color<\/strong><\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>The first sample we heard from the album came in the way of the first official video from the album for the ebullient marching-mode of track <em><strong>Tower<\/strong><\/em>, which you can watch below in all of its painterly,<strong> Mary Poppins<\/strong>-y glory.\u00a0 We&#8217;ve since sampled the album in its entirety, and can tell you it is a superbly deep and rewarding album.\u00a0 To get a feel, you can now stream it over at <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/2014\/04\/20\/303395246\/first-listen-wye-oak-shriek?ft=1&amp;f=10001\">NPR <\/a><\/strong>until the 28th.\u00a0 If you do nothing else with the stream, put the melodic-beauty <em><strong>Logic of Color<\/strong><\/em> (track 10) on repeat.\u00a0 It was our <strong>Song of the Week<\/strong> last week and helped pull us through.<\/p>\n<p>Get ready to <em><strong>Shriek<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 The album&#8217;s tracklist is below the video and you can pre-order it <a href=\"http:\/\/wyeoakmusic.portmerch.com\/stores\/home.php\"><strong>HERE<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tJnRAnvtNnA\" height=\"425\" width=\"625\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Shriek<\/em> Tracklist:<\/strong><br \/>\n1.
