{"id":2139,"date":"2010-08-27T15:19:01","date_gmt":"2010-08-27T15:19:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/?p=2139"},"modified":"2011-09-19T16:25:34","modified_gmt":"2011-09-19T16:25:34","slug":"the-real-country-no-3-for-kelly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/2010-08\/the-real-country-no-3-for-kelly\/","title":{"rendered":"The Real Country, No. 3 (for Kelly)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2147\" title=\"GramParsons\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/GramParsons.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"379\" height=\"475\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/GramParsons.jpg 379w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/GramParsons-119x150.jpg 119w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/GramParsons-319x400.jpg 319w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 379px) 100vw, 379px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>No. 3, No. 4, No. 5, No. 6, on and on with this musician&#8230;.\u00a0 For us one artist could fill the remaining slots of The Real Country (in part, we know the limits of your twang patience).\u00a0 Gram Parsons represented and still represents THE real country music.\u00a0\u00a0 No one else comes close.\u00a0 No one in that realm has ever touched the creative brilliance and soulful authenticity that showered across our blue skies for a handful of years and then plunged into darkness in 1973.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not even close.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll write another time in full about Gram [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/2011-09\/the-angels-rejoiced-that-night-on-the-38th-anniversary-of-gram-parsons-passing\/\"><strong>Lefort:\u00a0 A year later, it can be found HERE<\/strong><\/a>].\u00a0 Suffice it to say for now that he invented the country rock genre, and played it out in the Byrds, the Flying Burrito Brothers, occasionally with the Rolling Stones, and solo (with Emmylou Harris).\u00a0 And he paved the way for the &#8220;outlaws&#8221; movement and enabled Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings to restore real country music radio for a while.\u00a0 To this day his legacy remains strong, with the Santa Barbara Bowl recently hosting a phenomenal tribute concert to Parsons headlined by Keith Richards and Lucinda Williams.<\/p>\n<p>But until another day, we give you his defining song, <em>In My Hour of Darkness. <\/em>Glen D.
