635px) 100vw, 635px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Iris Dement came down from the clouds in 1992 with her great debut record, <em>Infamous Angel, <\/em>and rained hard on us for quite a few years.\u00a0 In 1993, she released her best record to date, <em>My Life. <\/em>Iris was the 14th child born (in Arkansas) to the Dement family.\u00a0 The family moved to California for a while before Iris moved to Kansas City and then to Nashville.\u00a0 Iris hides nothing in her songs, and her vocals channel a deeper source.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s hard to pick just one song amongst a handful of Dement&#8217;s real country gems, but we have to go with <em>No Time to Cry.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span><span><strong>&#8220;<\/strong>My father died a year ago today,<br \/>\nthe rooster started crowing when they carried Dad away<br \/>\nThere beside my mother, in the living room, I stood<br \/>\nwith my brothers and my sisters knowing Dad was gone for good<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Well, I stayed at home just long enough to lay him in the ground<br \/>\nand then I caught a plane to do a show up north in Detroit town<br \/>\nbecause I&#8217;m older now and I&#8217;ve got no time to cry<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve got no time to look back, I&#8217;ve got no time to see<br \/>\nthe pieces of my heart that have been ripped away from me<br \/>\nand if the feeling starts to coming, I&#8217;ve learned to stop &#8217;em fast<br \/>\n`cause I don&#8217;t know, if I let them go, they might not wanna pass<br \/>\nAnd there&#8217;s just so many people trying to get me on the phone<br \/>\nand there&#8217;s bills to pay, and songs to play, and a house to make a home<br \/>\nI guess I&#8217;m older now and I&#8217;ve got no time to cry<\/p>\n<p>I can still remember when I was a girl<br \/>\nbut so many things have changed so much here in my world<br \/>\nI remember sitting on the front porch when an ambulance went by<br \/>\nand just listening to those sirens I would breakdown and cry<\/p>\n<p>But now I&#8217;m walking and I&#8217;m talking doing just what I&#8217;m supposed to do<br \/>\nworking overtime to make sure that I don&#8217;t come unglued<br \/>\nI guess I&#8217;m older now and I&#8217;ve got no time to cry<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve got no time to look back, I&#8217;ve got no time to see<br \/>\nthe pieces of my heart that have been ripped away from me<br \/>\nand if the feeling starts to coming, I&#8217;ve learned to stop &#8217;em fast<br \/>\n`cause I don&#8217;t know, if I let them go, they might not wanna pass<br \/>\nAnd there&#8217;s just so many people trying to get me on the phone<br and I watch the evening news<br \/>\nthere&#8217;s a half a dozen tragedies from which to pick and choose<br \/>\nThe baby that was missing was found in a ditch today<br \/>\nand there&#8217;s bombs a-flying and people dying not so far away<br \/>\nI&#8217;ll take a beer from the &#8216;fridgerator and go sit out in the yard<br \/>\nand with a cold one in my hand I&#8217;m gonna bite down and
