Conor Oberst<\/strong> has written some of the best songs of his generation.\u00a0 Amongst the touchstones is his ever-affecting and oft-performed Lua<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 Watch below a recent live version captured by Cardinal Sessions<\/strong> at the Haldern Pop Festival <\/strong>in which\u00a0<\/strong>Oberst<\/strong> is supported superbly by Dawes’ Taylor Goldsmith<\/strong> on guitar and the First Aid Kit<\/strong> sisters.\u00a0 We’ve seen Gillian Welch<\/strong> and Dave Rawlings<\/strong> perform the song with Oberst <\/strong>several times (always bringing down the house and a filling up some eyes), but this version is similarly winning.\u00a0 Watch as Goldsmith<\/strong> does his own fine take on Rawlings’<\/strong>-esque inflections and First Aid Kit<\/strong> adds a pop\/tart touch to the vocals.\u00a0 Superb.<\/p>\n

If you like what you hear, you might want to show up at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival<\/strong> in San Francisco on Friday, October 3rd when Oberst<\/strong> will curate a stage featuring Goldsmith’s Dawes, Sharon Van Etten<\/strong> (if anyone was ever meant to sing Lua<\/strong><\/em>, it’s SVE<\/strong>), Waxahatchee, The Good Life<\/strong> and Jonathan Wilson<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
