{"id":22230,"date":"2014-09-10T08:18:46","date_gmt":"2014-09-10T16:18:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/?p=22230"},"modified":"2014-09-10T08:18:46","modified_gmt":"2014-09-10T16:18:46","slug":"surprise-surprise-the-replacements-played-on-fallon-and-they-were-great","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/2014-09\/surprise-surprise-the-replacements-played-on-fallon-and-they-were-great\/","title":{"rendered":"Surprise, Surprise:  The Replacements Played on Fallon&#8211;And They Were Great!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/instagram.com\/p\/svg1t7ChPe\/embed\/\" width=\"525\" height=\"625\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Back in the day, you never knew what you were going to get with a concert by <strong>The Replacements<\/strong>.\u00a0 Though they were always near-perfection on record, their live shows could either yield sloppy-shambolics or spot-on revelation, or both.\u00a0 Frankly it was oft-times more of the former (though we&#8217;ll never forget those mid-80s <em><strong>Here Comes A Regular<\/strong> <\/em>singalongs).\u00a0 After a near-20 year hiatus, the &#8220;band&#8221; (survivors <strong>Paul Westerberg<\/strong> and bassist <strong>Tommy Stinson, <\/strong>with newcomers<strong> Dave Minehan<\/strong> and <strong>Josh Freese<\/strong>) got back together, and have been out on<a href=\"http:\/\/thereplacementsofficial.com\/pages\/home\" target=\"_blank\"><strong> tour for a while now<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Last night, the band showed up on <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbc.com\/the-tonight-show\/filters\/music\" target=\"_blank\"><em>The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon<\/em><\/a><\/strong>, and the Minneapolis mavens ripped through a rousing performance of their 1987 homage to late <strong>Big Star<\/strong> leader <em><strong>Alex Chilton<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 <strong>Jimmy Fallon<\/strong> introduced them as a &#8220;massively beloved and influential rock band in the midst of their first tour since 1991,&#8221;
