Following our piece yesterday on Neil Young<\/strong> and given being hopelessly mired in the new Basement Tapes Raw<\/strong><\/em> release from Bob Dylan<\/strong>, there was something quite conjoining this morning when we happened upon the new single (New Black Rich (Tusks)<\/strong><\/em>) from Bonnie “Prince” Billy<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0 The song wouldn’t have been out of place amongst Young’s harrowing hat-trick<\/strong><\/a> and has allusions to Dylan lyrics<\/strong> within (“and the times they are not a-changing fast enough”), and is the latest from Bonnie’s<\/strong> recently-released, critically-acclaimed new album, Singer\u2019s Grave a Sea of Tongues<\/strong><\/em><\/a>.\u00a0 The new album is produced by the regular Bonnie-<\/strong>collaborator\u00a0\u00a0Mark Nevers <\/strong>(see the previous Bonny albums Lie Down In the Light <\/strong><\/em><\/a>and Master and Everyone<\/strong><\/em><\/a>).<\/p>\n

As you’ll hear below, New Black Rich (Tusks)<\/strong><\/em> is a heartfelt, ennui-ridden ballad (“I’ll say goodbye before we meet”) with an On The Beach-<\/strong><\/em>meter that features the perfect accompaniment of Billy Contreras<\/strong> on fiddle, Chris Scruggs<\/strong> on mandolin and Emmett Kelly<\/strong> on guitar, all of whom add a handsome hue and sepia-tones.<\/p>\n

As you can view below, Bonnie<\/strong> has now released the song’s official video (directed by\u00a0Claudia Crobatia<\/strong>) that tells an off-kilter love story (imagine that, from Bonnie “Prince” Billy<\/strong>).\u00a0 In the video, the be-tusked Bonnie <\/span><\/strong>walks into a bar (no joke) and finds a beautiful, be-hooved singer who he slow-dances with.\u00a0 Who hasn’t felt be-tusked or be-hooved at times while out in this world of ours?\u00a0 The song and the video are beasts of beauty.<\/p>\n
