Magnolia Electric Co.<\/strong>).\u00a0 Included in this worthwhile effort are his label<a href=\"http:\/\/www.secretlycanadian.com\/press\/songsohia\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong> Secretly Canadian<\/strong><\/a>, but also the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/2013-03\/watch-the-avett-brothers-covertribute-to-jason-molina\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Avett Brothers<\/strong> <\/a>and a murder of others.\u00a0 Most recently, <strong>Secretly Canadian<\/strong> released the superb Deluxe Edition of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scdistribution.com\/songsohia\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em><strong>Didn&#8217;t It Rain<\/strong><\/em><\/a>.\u00a0 If you don&#8217;t own it, then Merry Christmas to yourself.<\/p>\n<p>Adding to the host of homilies for <strong>Molina<\/strong>, <a href=\"http:\/\/strandofoaks.net\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Strand of Oaks<\/strong><\/a> also paid perfect homage to<strong> Molina<\/strong> this year with the song<em><strong> JM<\/strong><\/em> off of their 2014 album <em><strong>Heal<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 We love everything about it, including the lyrics and the Neil Young\/Built to Spill guitar razing.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll admit to being somewhat ambivalent about <a href=\"http:\/\/strandofoaks.net\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Strand of Oaks<\/strong><\/a> (<strong>Tim Showalter<\/strong>) until recently.\u00a0 But with the album <em><strong>Heal<\/strong> <\/em>and a recent stream of captivating cover song releases, we&#8217;ve been completely won over by the artist.\u00a0 You can go <a href=\"http:\/\/strandofoaks.net\/about\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>HERE<\/strong> <\/a>to read the back-story on <em><strong>Heal<\/strong><\/em>, but as the Jamaicans say: &#8220;Dem dat knows it feels it.&#8221;\u00a0 And with <em><strong>Heal<\/strong><\/em>, we all definitely feel it.\u00a0 Without getting too maudlin and specific, when we listen to <em><strong>Heal<\/strong><\/em> (and, specifically, <em><strong>JM<\/strong><\/em>) it&#8217;s as if the words were written on our souls.\u00a0 Lived through this and that, and out the other end.\u00a0 Oh that it were so for <em><strong>JM<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 The crow has in fact lost its wings.<\/p>\n<p>Check<em><strong> JM<\/strong> <\/em>out below (the song&#8217;s lyrics follow the song), and while you&#8217;re at it, go <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/2014-03\/on-sunday-listen-to-songs-ohias-soul\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>HERE<\/strong><\/a> to see our post about and listen again to one of our favorite re-releases of\u00a0the year in <strong>Molina&#8217;s<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.secretlycanadian.com\/onesheet.php?cat=SC200dig1\"><em><strong> Journey On: Singles Collected<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, including the sweetest of songs, <em><strong>Soul<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 Desolation row has never sounded so good.\u00a0 Hammer down, heaven bound, dearly departed.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/exSbJDbzsak\" width=\"625\" height=\"425\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>JM<\/strong><\/em>:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I was an Indiana kid, getting no one in my bed I had your sweet tunes to play I was staring at the map, feeling fire in my head I had your sweet tunes to play I was mean to my dad, cause I was mean to myself I had your sweet tunes to play Stealing smokes in my car, with the window way down I had your sweet tunes to play Your sweet tunes to play I was sitting in the bath, cleaning off the ash I had your sweet tunes to play And I hated all my friends, and wouldn\u2019t let them in I had your sweet tunes to play On a long desert train, with a knife in my bag I had your sweet tunes to play Under the Market Street Bridge, burning one in my hand I had your sweet tunes to play Your sweet tunes to play Now its hard to hear you sing, the crow has lost his wings I got your sweet tunes to play I\u2019m getting older everyday, still living the same mistakes I got your sweet tunes to play Either get out or stay in, I won\u2019t let these dark times win We got your sweet tunes to play Your sweet tunes to play.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The world lost one its best (soul-baring) artists this year when the great songwriter Jason Molina went AWOL-into-the-next-world.\u00a0 Thankfully, many continue to carry the torch for Molina and all of his various fronts (Songs: Ohia;
