(max-width: 635px) 100vw, 635px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>D\u2019Angelo<\/strong> is back with his long-awaited, much-vaunted third album, <em><strong>Black Messiah.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em> Last night, performing for the fist time in support of the album, <strong>D\u2019Angelo<\/strong> and crew performed on<strong> Saturday Night Live<\/strong>.\u00a0 Check out below as <strong>D\u2019Angelo<\/strong> and his backup ensemble<strong> The Vanguard <\/strong>(including\u00a0 drummer <strong>John Backwell<\/strong>, bassist <strong>Pino Palladino<\/strong> of <strong>The Who<\/strong>, and guitarist <strong>Jesse Johnson of The Time)<\/strong> deftly regaled with performances of <em><strong>Really Love<\/strong> <\/em>and<em><strong> The Charade<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 With the deaths of <strong>Eric Garner, Michael Brown <\/strong>and<strong> Trayvon Martin<\/strong> ghosting the stage, the latter was particularly powerful with its built-upon amalgam of <strong>Prince, Isleys<\/strong> and, yes, even <strong>Joni Mitchellisms<\/strong> (to begin) to go with the lyrical onslaught.\u00a0 Intelligent, superb work from a master.<\/p>\n<div
