This week has been chockablock with would-be chart-topping releases.\u00a0 In an ideal world Desaparecidos’ City On a Hill<\/em> <\/strong><\/a>and Pfarmers’ The Ol’ River Gang<\/em><\/strong><\/a> would be sitting at or near the top of the new-release charts and joining them would be Eskimeaux’<\/a> I Admit I’m Scared <\/em><\/strong>from new album O.K.<\/strong><\/em> on Double Double Whammy<\/strong><\/a>. (We would also include Death Cab For Cuties’ Black Sun <\/em><\/strong><\/a>in the list, but their new release may actually be a chart-topper.)\u00a0 We trust that in no time, the world will get a clue and our dream-chart will be realized.\u00a0 Holding breath.<\/p>\n

Eskimeaux<\/strong> is the meauxniker [sic] of front-lady Gabrielle (Gabby) Smith<\/strong>, with other Brooklyn-centrics aiding, including Oliver Kalb<\/strong> of Bellows<\/strong>, Felix Walworth<\/strong> of Told Slant<\/strong>, and Jack Greenleaf<\/strong> of Sharpless<\/strong>.\u00a0 Apparently Smith developed O.K.’s<\/strong><\/em> songs on her own over two years.\u00a0 Smith<\/strong> then brought in Greenleaf<\/strong> to co-produce the album.\u00a0 Greenleaf<\/strong> also added arrangements and vocals.<\/p>\n

We love everything about the song I Admit I’m Scared<\/strong><\/em>, which you can listen to below.\u00a0 Lyrically, Smith hews to the classic confessional-songwriter motif (tip-off: the song’s title).\u00a0 Musically, the track begins soft and treacly, then builds and adds layers and emphases until the explosion at 3:21 and the resolve.\u00a0 We imagine that Eskimeaux<\/strong> can blow the roof off of joints with this song.<\/p>\n

Speaking of which, Eskimeaux<\/span><\/strong> will be touring in support of\u00a0O.K.<\/em><\/strong> (which will be released on May 12th).\u00a0 You can pre-order the album HERE<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n
