There’s intense gravity and regret starting to register within, and it’s not out of character.\u00a0 Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon<\/strong> is launching his first\u00a0 Eaux Claires Festival<\/a><\/strong> this summer in his heartland Wisconsin.\u00a0 The lineup<\/a> is heavily Lefort-centric<\/strong> and possibly the highest-caliber lineup we’ve ever seen, including faves Bon Iver<\/strong> (natch), The National<\/strong>, Sufjan Stevens, Spoon, Low, Sylvan Esso, Charles Bradley, Field Report, The Staves,<\/strong> and many more).\u00a0 <\/strong>As of now, it’s highly unlikely we will be able to attend.\u00a0 We’ll try to assuage our regrets by catching Spoon at the Wiltern on May 30th.\u00a0 Can’t wait.<\/p>\n

Yesterday, Vernon<\/strong> upped the ante on our Eaux Claire-angst<\/strong> by releasing the video below of his superb solo performance (we assume at the festival site) on a moon-filled night of Spoon’s<\/strong><\/a> great song Inside Out<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 Check it out below.\u00a0 There’s musical alchemy right there.\u00a0 We love everything about it, save the brevity.<\/p>\n

After the video, listen to the just-released, spare demo of Inside Out<\/strong> by Spoon<\/strong> (from a superb Song Exploder<\/strong><\/a> session a few months back).<\/p>\n

The song’s lyrics are at bottom.\u00a0 Though\u00a0Britt Daniel<\/span><\/strong> might disabuse us of the notion, we don’t share in the anti-faith interpretation of the song’s lyrics.\u00a0 We prefer to read the song as professing belief (in the big “you”) while resisting organized religion (otherwise the “holy rollers” stanza stands out of place and seemingly without context).\u00a0 But that’s just us.\u00a0 Regardless, it’s a great song on a fantastic album.<\/p>\n
