Simply put, Tom Waits<\/strong> is a national treasure.\u00a0 He has graced us with some of the best songs ever written, is a legendary performer, and has been a storied guest on the late night TV circuit for four decads.\u00a0 We’ve had coffee with he and his friends, spent New Years Eve<\/strong> with him (sure, with a thousand others at the Orpheum<\/strong> in San Francisco on 12\/31\/90<\/strong>) and caught him live on multiple occasions.\u00a0 We have yet to feel under-entertained by Waits.<\/p>\n

Such was the case last night when Waits<\/strong> appeared on one of the last Late Shows with David Letterman<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 Waits performed a new wistful homage to Letterman<\/strong> entitled Take One Last Look<\/strong><\/em> (lyrics at bottom).\u00a0 Waits<\/strong> introduced the new song by saying: “This one’s for you, Dave<\/strong>.”<\/p>\n

As usual with Letterman<\/strong>, Waits<\/strong> also gave his now-standard interview with Letterman<\/strong> before performing.\u00a0 Check out both below.\u00a0 Tr\u00e8s<\/span> charmant<\/em>.\u00a0 Waits rarely performs live these days, last appearing two years ago at Neil Young’s Bridge School Concert<\/strong>.\u00a0 If you get a chance to catch him, don’t miss it.<\/p>\n
