Now that all the Letterman hoopla<\/strong> is (unfortunately) over, it’s time to get back to some new music.\u00a0 And the music that’s resonating most on this gray, oil-slick California day is Canada’s The Weather Station<\/a><\/strong> and the sterling track Tapes <\/strong><\/em>off of their new album Loyalty<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 Tamara Lindeman<\/strong> is the Canadian singer-songwriter that is The Weather Station<\/strong>, and she is emblematic of the best of Canada’s female singer-songwriters.\u00a0 On the intimate Tapes\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>below Lindeman <\/strong>manages to channel the Canadian greats Joni Mitchell, Mary Margaret O’Hara<\/strong>, and Kathleen Edwards<\/strong> all in one heart-breaking, haiku-like, cautionary lament.\u00a0 Cautionary in the sense that we, like many, have got some tapes laying around that no one may ever hear.\u00a0 Check Tapes<\/strong><\/em> out below.\u00a0 The song’s lyrics are at bottom, though the singer’s mournful vocals convey as much or more.<\/p>\n
