In the wake of her consecutive sold out shows at the Roxy<\/strong> this past weekend, Melbourne’s indefatigable Courtney Barnett<\/strong><\/a> slipped in an afternoon show at the Grammy Museum<\/strong> on Sunday afternoon.\u00a0 And we were there.\u00a0 Barnett<\/strong> was thoughtful and her usual clever self during her 40 minute chat with Robert Santelli<\/strong> (the director of the Grammy Museum) in the phenomenally intimate Clive Davis Theater<\/strong>.\u00a0 During the question-and-answer time that followed, Barnett divulged that her record label, Milk! Records<\/strong>, will soon put out a new compilation of her songs and that Whole Foods<\/strong> is her favorite thing about America (really, not LA’s freeways?).\u00a0 Following a young lad’s diatribe\/question about being born in the ’80s, urban flight and the economic collapse of Wall Street, Barnett responded by recommending a “listen to Depreston<\/strong><\/em>.”\u00a0 Afterwards, Barnett performed a small cadre of songs, including Avant Gardener, Pedestrian at Best, Depreston, Elevator Operator<\/strong><\/em> and Small Poppies<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 Barnett sounded fantastic throughout and gave good indication that at the Roxy that night the punky Pedestrian At Best<\/strong> <\/em>would blow the doors off.\u00a0 Depreston<\/strong><\/em> best highlighted her unique lefty, claw-hammer guitar-playing style. Unfortunately, Barnett<\/strong> just started getting going at the tiny\u00a0 Grammy Museum<\/strong> when she had to stop, probably to run over to the Roxy<\/strong> for\u00a0 soundcheck.\u00a0 It was like ordering an appetizer and then finding out the restaurant closes in 10 minutes, and the walk out past the Taylor Swift<\/strong> memorabilia on display nearby was just a little bitter sweet.\u00a0 Oh well.\u00a0 That’s what we get for missing her at the Roxy<\/strong>!\u00a0 If you get the chance, don’t miss her and her tight band.\u00a0 The remaining tour dates, including Bonnaroo<\/strong>, can be found HERE<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n
