{"id":24036,"date":"2015-06-09T17:15:51","date_gmt":"2015-06-10T01:15:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/?p=24036"},"modified":"2015-06-09T17:15:51","modified_gmt":"2015-06-10T01:15:51","slug":"the-great-songs-southside-johnnys-cover-of-springsteens-the-fever","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/2015-06\/the-great-songs-southside-johnnys-cover-of-springsteens-the-fever\/","title":{"rendered":"The Great Songs&#8211;Southside Johnny&#8217;s Cover of Springsteen&#8217;s &#8220;The Fever&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Southside-Johnny-The-As-I-Dont-Want-To-Go-417067.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-24038\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Southside-Johnny-The-As-I-Dont-Want-To-Go-417067.jpg\" alt=\"Southside-Johnny--The-As-I-Dont-Want-To-Go-417067\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Southside-Johnny-The-As-I-Dont-Want-To-Go-417067.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Southside-Johnny-The-As-I-Dont-Want-To-Go-417067-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Southside-Johnny-The-As-I-Dont-Want-To-Go-417067-400x400.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In 1976 many music fans were starved for more music like that of the new-found musical hero of that time, <strong>Bruce Springsteen<\/strong>.\u00a0 <strong>Springsteen<\/strong> took the musical world by storm in 1975 with the release of his seminal <em><strong>Born To Run<\/strong><\/em> album and live shows.\u00a0 Unfortunately his subsequent recordings would be put on hold until 1978 because of legal wranglings between <strong>Springsteen<\/strong> and his former manager.\u00a0 So in &#8217;76 the aficionados were desperate for more sounds from the Jersey Shore.\u00a0 Fortunately, <strong>Springsteen&#8217;s<\/strong> pal <strong>Southside Johnny<\/strong> (<strong>&amp; the Asbury Jukes<\/strong>) were there to help fill the void.\u00a0 <strong>E-Street Band<\/strong> member <strong>Miami Steve Van Zandt<\/strong> produced and Springsteen contributed a couple songs to <strong>Southside&#8217;s<\/strong> first album, <em><strong>I Don&#8217;t Want To Go Home<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 While <strong>Southside Johnny &amp; the Asbury Jukes<\/strong> weren&#8217;t going to match the artistry of <strong>Springsteen<\/strong>, <em><strong>I Don&#8217;t Want To Go Home<\/strong> <\/em>was a thoroughly enjoyable album, and one cut on it stood out in particular:\u00a0 <strong>Springsteen&#8217;s<\/strong><em><strong> The Fever<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 While Springsteen had used this great song as a promotional demo and played it live, he did not release his own version formally until 1999.\u00a0 Regardless, we prefer the <strong>Southside Johnny<\/strong> version, which you can listen to below.\u00a0 The arrangement and playing are fantastic, and when <strong>Southside<\/strong> sings <strong>&#8220;you&#8217;re my sun in the morning and my moon at night&#8221;<\/strong> you truly <strong>FEEL<\/strong> it.<\/p>\n<p>Afterwards, check out a live performance of the song captured in 1978 at a Cleveland club featuring <strong>Southside, Springsteen, Miami Steve Van Zandt<\/strong> and other <strong>E Street Band<\/strong> members.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a thrilling performance.
