{"id":24249,"date":"2015-07-14T10:39:33","date_gmt":"2015-07-14T18:39:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/?p=24249"},"modified":"2015-07-14T10:39:33","modified_gmt":"2015-07-14T18:39:33","slug":"review-an-evening-with-miguel-at-intimate-sonos-studios","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/2015-07\/review-an-evening-with-miguel-at-intimate-sonos-studios\/","title":{"rendered":"Review:  An Evening With Miguel at Intimate Sonos Studios"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Chair.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"421\" class=\"size-large wp-image-24251\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Chair-650x421.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Chair-650x421.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Chair-150x97.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Chair-450x292.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>By Dylan Lefort<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Coming off playing a show in Hollywood for<strong> Sean Comb&#8217;s<\/strong> new TV network early <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_550965370\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Monday<\/span><\/span>, it seemed like rising neo-R&amp;B artist <a href=\"http:\/\/wildheart.officialmiguel.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Miguel<\/strong><\/a> might have grabbed some &#8220;coffee&#8221; before coming on stage last night at the intimate <strong>Sonos Studio<\/strong>.\u00a0 The crowd was similarly jacked that <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pandora.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pandora<\/a><\/strong> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sonos.com\/?r=1\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Sonos<\/strong><\/a> had invited them into the smallest venue of <strong>Miguel&#8217;s<\/strong> impending world tour.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/M2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" class=\"size-large wp-image-24252\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/M2-650x433.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/M2-650x433.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/M2-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/M2-450x300.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After hitting the stage, <strong>Miguel<\/strong> went wire-to-wire during his hour-long set with barely a pause.\u00a0 Backed by bass, guitar and electric drum, the LA-born and raised R&amp;B crooner moved fluidly through his hit-filled show.\u00a0 In closing with the Grammy-winning <em><strong>Adorn<\/strong><\/em> off his previous album, <em><strong>Kaleidoscope Dreams<\/strong><\/em>, and adding the radio-friendly version of his ode to roasted seed-pods, <em><strong>Coffee (In The Morning)<\/strong><\/em>, off his critically-acclaimed and chart-topping new album, <em><strong>Wildheart<\/strong><\/em>, <strong>Miguel<\/strong> gave the crowd the hits this night.\u00a0 He also got the <strong>200 people<\/strong> in attendance fired up with a medley of <strong>Rae Sremmurd&#8217;s <em>No Type<\/em> <\/strong>mashed with<em><strong> Sure Thing<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/M3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" class=\"size-large wp-image-24253\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/M3-650x433.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/M3-650x433.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/M3-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/M3-450x300.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The one extended break he took he spent talking about growing up in LA, being &#8220;normal,&#8221; and how people can lose themselves living around the\u00a0flash of LA.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;\u201cI was kind of down and I was having a really weird moment, having challenges creatively and on a personal note, and I realized normality is such a subjective thing,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Everyone has their own idea of what normal is based on their circumstances and their experiences. And it was in that moment that I realized that we really can free ourselves from worrying about other people\u2019s perceptions of us if we just take the time to figure out what the **** we stand for, what we believe in, what we\u2019re willing to sacrifice, what we\u2019re not willing to sacrifice.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/M4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" class=\"size-large wp-image-24254\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/M4-650x433.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/M4-650x433.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/M4-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/M4-450x300.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Miguel<\/strong>, naturally, then launched into the beginning of <em><strong>What&#8217;s Normal Anyway<\/strong><\/em> accapella. &#8220;Too proper for the black kids\/ Too black for the Mexicans,&#8221; the song begins.\u00a0 The son of an African-American mom and Mexican-American father born and raised in San Pedro, <strong>Miguel<\/strong> wowed the heavily female crowd with both his impressive vocal skills as well as his stage presence: dancing, spinning and writhing till his white shirt was soaked through with sweat.\u00a0 He also took a selfie with one particularly enthusiastic girl in the front row and really seemed to be loving his time on stage, dancing and laughing with his band members and getting the audience to two-step along to a chorus.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/M5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" class=\"size-large wp-image-24255\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/M5-650x433.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/M5-650x433.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/M5-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/M5-450x300.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As mentioned, <strong>Miguel<\/strong> ended with <em><strong>Adorn<\/strong><\/em> and left <strong>Sonos Studio<\/strong> with a little inspiring message for the crowd: &#8220;The truth is, whenever you&#8217;re doing something that&#8217;s unconventional, you&#8217;re bound to face adversity. But I can tell you, you stick to your guns, and you believe deeper, transcend all of the programming, life is beautiful. So stay well. Live your passion.
