A good part of current pop music (Adele, Sam Smith<\/strong>, etc.) almost always gives us the sensation that we’ve heard good portions of it before. \u00a0This might explain the spate of copyright infringement lawsuits currently afflicting the music industry. \u00a0While there’s nothing new under the sun, modern artists (and their hired-gun songwriters) might try a little harder.<\/p>\n

We always sensed something about Hozier’s Take Me To Church<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0that reminded us of another song\/artist, but we couldn’t put our finger on it until today when Chilly Gonzalez<\/strong> pointed out (in his latest Pop Music Masterclass<\/strong> video) that Hozier’s<\/strong> song is at least a partial rip-off of the fantastic Feist’s\u00a0<\/strong>song,\u00a0How Come You Never Go There<\/strong><\/em>. \u00a0Watch below as Gonzalez<\/strong> assays the song’s foundations and its relation to hymns and requiems, and then lets Hozier<\/strong> have it. \u00a0Is it any wonder, given that Feist<\/strong> is Gonzalez’s<\/strong> friend and Gonzalez<\/strong> produced and played on Feist’s<\/strong> fantastic album Metals<\/strong><\/em>, on which How Come You Never Go There<\/strong> <\/em>is found? \u00a0Apparently Hozier<\/strong> DID go there.<\/p>\n
