Courtney Barnett<\/strong> today released news of a repackaging and boxsets of her fantastic album Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit<\/strong><\/em>, but also a brand new 7″ single produced by Jack White<\/strong> for his Third Man Records Blue Series<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As a part thereof, Barnett<\/strong> gives us today a listen of the B-side of the single, Shivers<\/strong>,\u00a0<\/em>by fellow-Australians The Boys Next Door<\/strong> (the\u00a0A-side\u00a0<\/strong>is Boxing Day Blues (revisited)<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>an extension of the closing song on her recent album). \u00a0 Shivers\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>was written by Rowland S. Howard<\/strong> when he was a scant 16 years old. \u00a0Howard<\/strong> would record the song with The Boys Next Door<\/strong><\/em>, which evolved into the seminal\u00a0The Birthday Party<\/strong> (with Nick Cave<\/strong>). \u00a0Unfortunately, Howard<\/strong> passed away on December 30, 2009 of liver cancer. \u00a0You can check out his own “cover” (as he says) of the song after listening to Barnett’s<\/strong> stirring version below.<\/p>\n

Barnett<\/strong> will also be back in California on October 20th, opening at The Hollywood Bowl<\/strong> for Blur<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
