In addition to the new Thundercat<\/strong> homage we posted earlier today, we took solace this weekend (and always) in one of the greatest songs ever written: the late jazz-composer Charlie Haden’s<\/a> First Song<\/em><\/strong>. The song has been covered ad infinitum, but our favorite remains his Quartet West<\/strong> recording with the nonpareil Ernie Watts, Alan Broadbent<\/strong>, and Larance Marable<\/strong>. \u00a0While it may have been\u00a0written for Haden’s wife, in First Song<\/strong> <\/em>we hear a relatively simple, but haunting melody, that moves through many moods. \u00a0In the aftermath of Paris, for us it moves from heavyhearted torment, to anger, to soulful wonderment, and then, peaceful resolve. \u00a0May you so resolve. \u00a0Peace be to Paris.<\/p>\n
