\"Bowie-Lazarus\"<\/a><\/p>\n

David Bowie<\/a><\/strong> has gone through hell and back over the last decade. \u00a0Having overcome major heart issues in 2004, Bowie made a strong comeback in 2013 with his critically-acclaimed album The Next Day<\/strong><\/em>. \u00a0Is it any wonder he’s now singing from heaven? \u00a0Bowie<\/strong> will release his 25th(!!) studio album,\u00a0Blackstar<\/strong><\/em>, on his 69th birthday on January 8th. \u00a0This week Bowie broke new song\u00a0Lazarus<\/strong><\/em>, and we love it, but especially the weighty lyrics (see way below) and the mournful horns set against the math rock mien and melody. \u00a0Check it below.<\/p>\n

Bowie’s<\/strong> long-time producer,\u00a0Tony Visconti<\/strong>, recently said that the new record was in part inspired by rapper Kendrick Lamar<\/strong>. \u00a0To which we say: what or who isn’t? \u00a0Visconti<\/strong> has said this about the new album: “We were listening to a lot of Kendrick Lamar.<\/strong> We wound up with nothing like that, but we loved the fact Kendrick<\/strong> was so open-minded and he didn\u2019t do a straight-up hip-hop record. He threw everything on there, and that\u2019s exactly what we wanted to do. The goal, in many, many ways, was to avoid rock’n’roll.”<\/p>\n

Lazurus<\/strong><\/em> bodes incredibly well for Blackstar<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

Afterwards, watch actor Michael C. Hall<\/strong>\u00a0(and the cast of \u00a0Lazarus<\/em><\/strong>, Bowie\u2019s<\/strong> new theatrical adaptation of\u00a0The Man Who Fell To Earth<\/em><\/strong>) adopt Bowie’s persona and voice, and perform Lazurus<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0on the Colbert Late Show<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
