Took the day off. \u00a0Maybe more. \u00a0Hadn’t fathomed the tenebrous effect The Thin White Duke’s<\/strong>\u00a0passing would have on us. \u00a0Still grappling with that. Like many affected, we’ve watched a lot of Bowie<\/strong> video since we got the news. A good friend passed along the first video below, which is from The Concert for New York City<\/strong> (a musical celebration of gratitude for the 9-11 First Responders). \u00a0Watch below as\u00a0Bowie<\/strong> sings the Texas out of Paul Simon’s America<\/em><\/strong> (while seated, simply playing a Casio) and his own emphatic Heroes<\/strong><\/em>, dedicated to a local firefighter company. \u00a0On the latter, Bowie<\/strong> is backed incredibly well by Paul Shaffer<\/strong> and the rest of Letterman’s band<\/strong>. \u00a0It’s a breathtaking combo. Good luck keeping your emotions in check.<\/p>\n

At bottom is our own favorite: \u00a0Bowie<\/strong> in 1974 on the Dick Cavett Show,<\/strong>\u00a0looking thin and duke-ish while performing Young Americans<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>as\u00a0<\/em>backed by, among other greats, a very young David Sanborn<\/strong> and an unknown Luther Vandross<\/strong>. \u00a0So very good.<\/p>\n

Oh how he is missed. \u00a0RIP David Bowie<\/strong>. \u00a0We’ll see you in the bye and bye.<\/p>\n
