We are big fans of Jeremy Earls<\/strong> and his amalgam known as Woods<\/a><\/strong>. \u00a0They consistently deliver well-wrought music laden with Jeremy Earls’ keen vocals, light-leavened harmonies and well-played instrumentals. Woods<\/strong> is back soon (April 8th<\/sup>) with their new album\u00a0City Sun Eater In the River of Light<\/em><\/strong>, <\/i>via their label Woodsist<\/strong>. \u00a0To get things started, they offered up this week the album\u2019s first single entitled Sun City Creeps<\/strong><\/em>, which is apparently an homage to Arizona trio\u00a0Sun City Girls<\/strong>\u00a0(honestly, clueless here), which apparently released 50 albums and 23 cassettes in 26 years.<\/p>\n

The super song opens in full roots-reggae motif with signature reggae horns a la Tommy McCook, Cedric Brooks<\/strong>, Rico Rodriguez<\/strong>, et. al (not “mariachi” horns as dreamed up by NPR<\/strong> and P4K<\/strong> ) before transitioning at the 2:48 mark (and later) to some tastefully-aggressive lead guitar, after which we find the song evolving into more of a world-music sound. \u00a0Superb stuff from Woods<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Mission accomplished Woodsists<\/strong>: \u00a0we will have to check out Sun City Girls<\/strong> further.<\/p>\n
