On March 27th, Mark Kozelek<\/strong>\u00a0(Sun Kil Moon, Red House Painters<\/strong>)\u00a0<\/strong>will release a new, piano-laden covers album entitled\u00a0Mark Kozelek Sings Favorites<\/em><\/strong>. The ever-controversial Kozelek<\/strong> is one of our all-time favorite singer-songwriters and he’s always evinced a way with covers, and this album (and its cover art above) perfectly matches the May-Gray vantage outside our windows.<\/p>\n

Mark Kozelek Sings Favorites<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0is piano-heavy and includes stellar accompaniment\u00a0by Will Oldham<\/strong>,\u00a0Low\u2019s Mimi Parker<\/strong>, Slowdive\u2019s Rachel Goswell<\/strong>, and Faith No More\u2019s Mike Patton<\/strong>, among others. Included are eclectic songs penned by the likes of Bowie, Mancini and Mercer, 10cc,\u00a0Waylon Jennings, Sondheim<\/strong> and Modest Mouse<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

If you have a short amount of time, don’t miss\u00a0Kozelek’s<\/strong> cover of Modest Mouse’s Float On<\/em><\/strong> with its ghosted, Gregorian-chant background vocals. \u00a0It’s a beauty with the following Kozelek-<\/strong>relevant line: “I ran my mouth off a\u00a0bit too much, ah what did I say?” \u00a0Superb stuff from the arguably-misunderstood\u00a0Kozelek<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
