As many Wall Street tycoons and other rapscallion scions have discovered, sometimes it pays for enterprises to spin off their assets. Such is definitely the case with the much-vaunted musical enterprise\u00a0The Walkmen<\/strong><\/a>. Since The Walkmen<\/strong> went on hiatus a few years back, the band’s singer Hamilton Leithauser<\/strong><\/a> has released three critically-acclaimed albums (the most recent with Rostam\u00a0Batmanglij<\/strong>, formerly of Vampire Weekend,\u00a0<\/strong>entitled I Had A Dream That You Were Mine<\/strong><\/em>).<\/p>\n

Speaking of The Walkmen<\/strong> and three solo albums, another stalwart member\/songwriter of the band,\u00a0Walter Martin<\/strong><\/a>, released a much-loved children\u2019s album,\u00a0We\u2019re All Young Together<\/em><\/strong>, in 2014.\u00a0Following We\u2019re All\u00a0Young Together<\/em><\/strong>,\u00a0<\/em>Martin<\/strong> released another critically-hailed solo album,\u00a0Arts & Leisure\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>in 2015.\u00a0<\/em>And now comes the matching third album. Martin<\/strong> will release in May (on Cinco de Mayo) another children\u2019s record\u00a0entitled\u00a0My Kinda Music<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/em>In a press release regarding the new album, Martin<\/strong> said: \u201cI\u2019ll never forget being a kid listening to Garrison Keillor\u2019s\u00a0Lake Wobegon Days\u00a0<\/strong>on long family car trips. I\u2019d be lying in the nauseating back seat of our minivan transfixed by the warmth and humor of his stories. And up in the front my parents would be experiencing the exact same thing. My goal with this album is to induce that same kind of wonderful family hypnosis.\u201d<\/p>\n

To give a feel, Martin<\/strong> has just released a single from the upcoming album entitled Hey Matt<\/strong><\/em>, which features the busy, ever-surprising Matt Berninger<\/strong> of The National<\/strong>. On the song Berninger<\/strong> provides tongue-in-cheek singing coaching to Martin<\/strong>: \u201cAnd Walt, don\u2019t waste your time, singing about love and lonely nights, \u2018cause no one\u2019s gonna pay a dime, or stand in line to hear you whine.\u201d Later in the song, Martin<\/strong> takes Berninger<\/strong> down a notch by revealing that his first choice to duet on the song was Randy Newman<\/strong>, who did not respond to Martin’s inquiry.
