We discovered<\/a> Hurray for the Riff Raff<\/strong><\/a> in 2014 with the release of their superb, much-lauded album Small Town Heroes<\/strong><\/em>. Thankfully the band (led by Puerto Rican-descent New Yorker\u00a0Alynda Segarra) <\/strong>is back with its critically-acclaimed new album The Navigator<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>on ATO<\/strong> Records. The album was superbly produced by\u00a0Paul Butler<\/strong>. The songs were evidently “inspired by Segarra\u2019s<\/strong> own journey from the South Bronx to the downtown punk scene and beyond, in search of her identity.” And you can hear that and more in these great new songs. Check out below three songs from the album: the ravishing protest of\u00a0Rican Beach <\/em><\/strong>(deriding\u00a0the gentrification of the South Bronx and the co-opting of Puerto Rican culture), the lamentable inhospitable life of\u00a0<\/em>Living<\/em> In The City<\/em><\/strong>,\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>and\u00a0the official video for soul-searching track Hungry Ghost<\/strong><\/em>. And finally, check out Segarra’s<\/strong> solo performance of Living In The City<\/strong><\/em> on The Daily Show\u00a0<\/strong>and NPR’s<\/strong> capture of the band’s vibrant set at SXSW<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
