Long-time Lefort fave<\/span> Laura<\/span> Veirs<\/span><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0will release her new album The Lookout<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0on April 13th<\/span><\/span>\u00a0on\u00a0Raven Marching Band Records<\/strong>. After debuting the album’s impressive single\u00a0Everybody Needs You<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>(listen below),<\/strong>\u00a0Veirs<\/strong>\u00a0today has shared new song\u00a0Watch Fire<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0featuring Sufjan Stevens<\/strong>. Check it out below along with the song’s lyrics at bottom. \u00a0About the new song, Veirs<\/strong> has said:<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not sure if you\u2019ve heard wolves howling in the wild but there\u2019s no mistaking their sound. It\u2019s nothing like the howling of wind; it’s much more eerie and sinister. \u201cWatch Fire<\/strong><\/em>\u201d is about protecting the vulnerable among us and how I feel vulnerable, too, in this political climate. You can hear that in the lyric \u2018underneath this dome of red \/ white dog circling overhead.<\/em>\u2019 It was an honor to have Sufjan<\/strong> sing on this track as I admire him a lot. I heard his voice on this song when I wrote it. We\u2019ve been friends for a long time and he\u2019s given me quite a few artistic pep talks over the years. I sang on his Carrie & Lowell<\/strong><\/em> sessions so it\u2019s nice to have him on my record this time around.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the album’s PR release: “The Lookout<\/em><\/strong> is a soundtrack for turbulent times, full of allusions to protectors: the camper stoking a watch fire, a mother tending her children, a sailor in a crow\u2019s nest and a lightning rod channeling energy.”<\/p>\n

Veirs<\/strong> has this to say about her new album: \u201cThe Lookout<\/em> <\/strong>is about the need to pay attention to the fleeting beauty of life and to not be complacent; it\u2019s about the importance of looking out for each other. I\u2019m addressing what\u2019s happening around me with the chaos of post-election America, the racial divides in our country, and a personal reckoning with the realities of midlife: I have friends who\u2019ve died; I struggle with how to balance life as an artist with parenting young children.\u201d<\/p>\n
