Both those bands are, for us, at the top of the indie-rock realms. And when their members step out and collaborate with others, more magic ensues. Whether via <strong>Bon Iver&#8217;s<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Justin Vernon&#8217;s<\/strong>\u00a0varied productions or his collaborations in <a href=\"http:\/\/volcanochoir.com\/\"><strong>Volcano Choir<\/strong><\/a> or<a href=\"https:\/\/scarey.org\/\"> <strong>Sean Carey&#8217;s<\/strong><\/a> soaring solo recordings, or via <strong>The National&#8217;s<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Matt Berninger&#8217;s<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elvy.co\/\"><strong>El Vy<\/strong><\/a> project or the <strong>Dessner Twins&#8217;<\/strong> various projects and productions, these members consistently create fecund musical fields and savory song harvests. <strong>Vernon&#8217;s<\/strong> and <strong>Aaron Dessner&#8217;s<\/strong> new project <a href=\"https:\/\/www.p-e-o-p-l-e.com\/album\/big-red-machine\"><strong>Big Red Machine<\/strong><\/a> is yet another example.<\/p>\n<p>Ramping up a collaboration that began eons ago (via the <em><strong>Big Red Machine<\/strong><\/em> song included in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/redhot.org\/project\/dark-was-the-night\/\"><strong><em>Dark Was The Night<\/em><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0fundraiser) <strong>Vernon<\/strong> and <strong>The National\u2019s Aaron Dessner<\/strong> have today released <strong>The Big Red Machine&#8217;s<\/strong> debut album that once again inflames the ineffable (with inevitable f-ables). <strong>Vernon<\/strong> and <strong>Dessner<\/strong> have repeatedly collaborated before. They founded the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/eauxclaires.com\/\"><strong>Eaux Claires Festival<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and recently developed (with <strong>Bryce Dessner<\/strong>) a new music\/artist platform dubbed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.p-e-o-p-l-e.com\/\"><strong>PEOPLE<\/strong><\/a>, which seeks to further artistic collaboration. Now comes <em><strong>Big Red Machine<\/strong><\/em>. And we&#8217;re all in.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/BRM-Chart.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-28483\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/BRM-Chart-600x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/BRM-Chart-600x600.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/BRM-Chart-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/BRM-Chart-400x400.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/BRM-Chart-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/BRM-Chart.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The album reflects both <strong>Bon Iver&#8217;s<\/strong> and <strong>The National&#8217;s<\/strong> recent entreaties to electronica, but still features <strong>Vernon&#8217;s<\/strong> affecting, post-Expressionist lyrics, guitar plenitude and melodies befitting of both bands. The luminous list of participants is similarly impressive:\u00a0<strong>Bryce Dessner,\u00a0Arcade Fire\u2019s Richard Reed Parry, <\/strong>the unjustly unsung<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/lisahannigan.ie\/\"> Lisa Hannigan<\/a>, <\/strong>fulgent <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.phoebefuckingbridgers.com\/\">Phoebe Bridgers<\/a>,<\/strong>\u00a0the earth-eclipsing harmonists<strong>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thestaves.com\/\">The Staves<\/a>,<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/thisisthekit.co.uk\/\">This is the Kit\u2019s<\/a> Kate Stables<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/BRM-Duo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-28484\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/BRM-Duo-600x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/BRM-Duo-600x600.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/BRM-Duo-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/BRM-Duo-400x400.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/BRM-Duo-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/BRM-Duo.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To match the release of their eponymous album, <strong>Big Red Machine<\/strong> has delivered videos for three of our favorite songs off the album: <em><strong>Forest Green, Gratitude <\/strong><\/em>and the comparatively folkified<em><strong>\u00a0I Won&#8217;t Run From It<\/strong><\/em>. \u00a0<em><strong>Forest Green\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>is a particular highlight, with its emotionally propelling bass-line and<strong> Vernon&#8217;s<\/strong>\u00a0enigmatic lyrics that can&#8217;t help but tug the heartstrings.
