{"id":435,"date":"2010-05-10T01:11:16","date_gmt":"2010-05-10T01:11:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/?p=435"},"modified":"2010-05-11T14:17:01","modified_gmt":"2010-05-11T14:17:01","slug":"department-of-grizzlies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/2010-05\/department-of-grizzlies\/","title":{"rendered":"Department of Grizzlies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/go2.wordpress.com\/?id=725X1342&amp;site=tonemarrowreviews.wordpress.com&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Ftonemarrowreviews.files.wordpress.com%2F2008%2F10%2Fdoecover.jpg&amp;sref=http%3A%2F%2Ftonemarrowreviews.wordpress.com%2F2008%2F10%2F18%2Fdepartment-of-eagles-in-ear-park%2F\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"doecover\" src=\"http:\/\/tonemarrowreviews.files.wordpress.com\/2008\/10\/doecover.jpg?w=433&amp;h=435\" alt=\"\" width=\"433\" height=\"435\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As you may know, we are infatuated with Grizzly Bears, and particularly the Brooklyn-based musical variety.\u00a0 It turns out we are also earnestly enamored with Eagles (no, not those ancient, drug-addled geezers) and the Departments that house them.\u00a0 In the Department of Eagles&#8217; most recent recording, &#8220;In Ear Park,&#8221; those engrossed in the music of Grizzly Bear are treated to another round of resonant songs illumed by devout deliveries and melodies.<\/p>\n<p>With &#8220;In Ear Park&#8221; Daniel Rossen (of Grizzly Bear) and Fred Nicolaus have delivered their best collection to date (granted, &#8220;In Ear Park&#8221; was released pre-Veckatimest in October 2008, so the DoE&#8217;s may be in the throes of another round that may even eclipse &#8220;In Ear Park&#8221;).\u00a0\u00a0 This record is said to have been inspired by Rossen&#8217;s upbringing (being named after a favorite childhood haunt) and devoted to his departed dad.\u00a0 Rossen has brought in most of his pals from Grizzly Bear to help at times, and the sounds of the two bands often cross over.<\/p>\n<p>The record has gangs of great tracks, but our pick of the patter-litter is <em>Phantom Over<\/em> which aurally commences with low-key solo voice and acoustic guitar and accretes swirling harmonies, killer keys, guitars, and drums to much larger effect.<\/p>\n<p>And we love the heartfelt, but nonetheless oblique, lyrics (and especially the opening lines&#8211;who hasn&#8217;t been rendered so resigned?):<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;All right, we&#8217;ll do this your way<br \/>\nAll  right, we&#8217;ll make it anyway<br \/>\nNow&#8217;d be good time,<br \/>\nTo send us all away  there<br \/>\nSo what would it take?<br \/>\nAnd what would it take to make you  learn?<br \/>\nAnd what would it take?<br \/>\nAnd what would it take to make you listen?
