{"id":4882,"date":"2011-05-23T17:02:00","date_gmt":"2011-05-23T17:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/?p=4882"},"modified":"2011-12-16T08:42:15","modified_gmt":"2011-12-16T16:42:15","slug":"the-talk-show-music-roundup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/2011-05\/the-talk-show-music-roundup\/","title":{"rendered":"The Talk Show Music Roundup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There have been some great musical performances in the past few days on the late night talk shows.\u00a0 First up is <strong>Iron &amp; Wine <\/strong>from the Tonight Show.\u00a0 The band gave a stunning performance of their song, <em><strong>Tree By The River<\/strong><\/em>, replete with female back-up  singers, piano, mandolin, and clarinet.\u00a0 We love this band.<\/p>\n<p><object classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" width=\"600\" height=\"361\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/static.photobucket.com\/player.swf?file=http:\/\/vid1089.photobucket.com\/albums\/i359\/dg11469\/May 16 2011 - May 22 2011\/ironandwineleno_Segment100-00-03-00-03-52.mp4\" \/><param name=\"wmode\" value=\"transparent\" \/><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><embed type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"600\" height=\"361\" src=\"http:\/\/static.photobucket.com\/player.swf?file=http:\/\/vid1089.photobucket.com\/albums\/i359\/dg11469\/May 16 2011 - May 22 2011\/ironandwineleno_Segment100-00-03-00-03-52.mp4\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" wmode=\"transparent\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p>Next up is the<strong> cover-happy<\/strong> <strong>Bon Iver<\/strong> from the Jimmy Fallon Show.\u00a0 The band begins with Donny Hathaway&#8217;s <em><strong>A Song for You<\/strong><\/em>, before segueing into Bonnie Raitt\u2019s<em><strong> I Can\u2019t Make You Love Me<\/strong><\/em>, coupled with a bit of <em><strong>Nick Of Time<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 We would have preferred their clarion new song, <em><strong>Calgary. <\/strong><\/em>But make no mistake:\u00a0 the boy can sing and create a mood like few others<em><strong>.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><object classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" width=\"600\" height=\"361\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/static.photobucket.com\/player.swf?file=http:\/\/vid1089.photobucket.com\/albums\/i359\/dg11469\/May 23 2011 - May 29 2011\/boniverfallon_Segment100-00-04-00-05-15.mp4\" \/><param name=\"wmode\" value=\"transparent\" \/><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><embed type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"600\" height=\"361\" src=\"http:\/\/static.photobucket.com\/player.swf?file=http:\/\/vid1089.photobucket.com\/albums\/i359\/dg11469\/May 23 2011 - May 29 2011\/boniverfallon_Segment100-00-04-00-05-15.mp4\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" wmode=\"transparent\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p>In stark contrast to Bon Iver&#8217;s smooth delivery, check out the powerful <strong>Joy Formidable<\/strong> from Wales, performing their song <em><strong>Whirring<\/strong><\/em> on Conan.\u00a0 The group starts mid-tempo, but steadily builds to an energetic, thunderous closing capped off by the bass player devolving into some sort of performance-art headstand that may end up being the butt of some jokes.\u00a0 But before that end, there was some impressive and passionate playing and singing.\u00a0 We were pleasantly surprised that this is a band living up to the hype.\u00a0 Definitely a band to keep an eye on.<\/p>\n<p><object id=\"ep\" classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" width=\"640\" height=\"441\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\" \/><param name=\"bgcolor\" value=\"#000000\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/i.cdn.turner.com\/tegwebapps\/tbs\/tbs-www\/cvp\/teamcoco_dynamic_embed.swf?context=teamcoco_embed_offsite&amp;videoId=252318\" \/><embed id=\"ep\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"640\" height=\"441\" src=\"http:\/\/i.cdn.turner.com\/tegwebapps\/tbs\/tbs-www\/cvp\/teamcoco_dynamic_embed.swf?context=teamcoco_embed_offsite&amp;videoId=252318\" bgcolor=\"#000000\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p>Also making the talk shows were L.A&#8217;s <strong>Foster the People <\/strong>on Jimmy Kimmel performing their uber-catchy songs <em><strong>Pumped Up Kicks<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>Helena Beat<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 The band just released their debut album, <strong>&#8220;Torches,&#8221;<\/strong> this week.
