We meandered upon a couple of new music videos that, for us, help to overcome the greasy gray-matter outside our windows and convey some serious Summertime.\u00a0 First up is a great new song and video by Eleanor Friedberger <\/strong>from her first solo record, “Last Summer,” <\/strong>which is due from Merge<\/strong><\/a> in mid-July.\u00a0 Friedberger is the co-leader (with her brother, Matthew) of the inventive and invigorating band, “The Fiery Furnaces<\/strong>.”\u00a0 In My Mistakes <\/strong><\/em>Eleanor delivers a powerful pop song brimming with honesty (and manages to incorporate some solo tennis in the video).\u00a0 The Merge press blurb says it well:\u00a0 “Friedberger\u2019s phrasing is as good as anyone\u2019s; even better, when the line\u2019s over and most other singers would leave it right there, she\u2019ll throw in an unnecessary extra syllable\u2014a \u201cyuh\u201d or an \u201cer,\u201d even an \u201coh oh.\u201d It\u2019s like she hates silence. \u201cEleanor Friedberger\u2019s music improves on silence\u201d<\/strong>: there\u2019s your headline.”<\/p>\n

And below that is the perpetually peppy Matt and Kim<\/strong> (do they ever have a “bad day”?) with a new video for their song, Block After Block<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 The video is an infectious bit of sound and and sight featuring New York City and environs (Union Square, Brooklyn Bridge Walkway, etc.).\u00a0 Chapeau! to the maundering mosh-pit and the crowd-surf train guy.\u00a0 All of which serves to remind:\u00a0 it’s been far too long, NYC.\u00a0 Check ’em out.<\/p>\n
