{"id":59,"date":"2010-03-22T00:04:53","date_gmt":"2010-03-22T00:04:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/?p=59"},"modified":"2010-04-06T00:27:49","modified_gmt":"2010-04-06T00:27:49","slug":"open-up-those-blinds-the-antlers-wake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/2010-03\/open-up-those-blinds-the-antlers-wake\/","title":{"rendered":"Open Up Those Blinds&#8211;The Antlers&#8217; &#8220;Wake&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.songlyrics.com\/album_covers\/55\/the-antlers-hospice\/the-antlers-44935-hospice.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Hospice\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>I read the news today, oh boy (and yesterday and in these depression months), and the suicide story&#8217;s unrelenting:\u00a0 Linkous, Jay R., Jamie, Hughes, Hendry, Andrew, the Cornell Kids&#8230;.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>My preferred (albeit skewed) take away from The Antlers&#8217; awe-inspiring &#8220;Wake&#8221;:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>When the good people come (and they will) with their helicopter to lift you out, please (I beg of you) choose to let these people in.\u00a0 We beg of you&#8230;let them in.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelefortreport.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/09-Wake1.mp3\">09 Wake<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Wake&#8221; by The Antlers:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With the door closed, shades drawn, the world shrinks.<br \/>\nLet&#8217;s open up those  blinds.<br \/>\nBut someone has to sweep the floor, pick up her dirty  clothes.<br \/>\nThat job&#8217;s not mine.<br \/>\nNow that everyone&#8217;s an enemy, my heart  sinks.<br \/>\nLet&#8217;s put away those claws.<br \/>\nI don&#8217;t blame them for their  curtains-calls because I pulled the rope.<br \/>\nI wannna call them back out for  applause.<\/p>\n<p>Spring and Thompson on the first of May is horrible.<br \/>\nWe hid in  catacombs.<br \/>\nSo now I&#8217;m sleeping next to mousetraps, in a bed of all our  clothes,<br \/>\nwhile I hope that she won&#8217;t come home.<br \/>\nIt was easier to lock the  doors and kill the phones than to show my skin,<br \/>\nbecause the hardest thing is never to repent for someone else,<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s letting people in.<\/p>\n<p>Well  you can come inside, unlock the door, take off your shoes.<br \/>\nBut this might  take all night.<br \/>\nTo explain to you I would have walked out those sliding  doors,<br \/>\nbut the timing never seemed right.<br \/>\nWhen your helicopter came and  tried to lift me out,<br \/>\nI put its rope around my neck.<br \/>\nAnd after that you  didn&#8217;t bother with the airlift or the rescue-<br \/>\nyou knew just what to  expect.<\/p>\n<p>That with the door closed, shades drawn, we&#8217;re dead  enough.<br \/>\nThey don&#8217;t open from outside.<br \/>\nAnd someone has to speak with their  teeth behind their tongue,<br \/>\nto never let that right be denied.<br \/>\nWe can&#8217;t rely  on photographs and visitation time,<br \/>\nbut I just don&#8217;t know where to begin.<br \/>\nI  wanna bust down the door, if you&#8217;re willing to forgive.<br \/>\nI&#8217;ve got the keys.\u00a0  I&#8217;m letting people in.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t be scared to speak, don&#8217;t speak with  someone&#8217;s tooth,<br \/>\ndon&#8217;t bargain when you&#8217;re weak, don&#8217;t take that sharp  abuse.<br \/>\nSome patients can&#8217;t be saved, but that burden&#8217;s not on  you.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t ever let anyone tell you you deserve that&#8230;.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I read the news today, oh boy (and yesterday and in these depression months), and the suicide story&#8217;s unrelenting:\u00a0 Linkous, Jay R., Jamie, Hughes, Hendry, Andrew, the Cornell Kids&#8230;.
